An old entry asked for the names of rivers, for shuttles.  I live in Indiana, so here are some of the more-interesting or more-unique names:  Driftwood, Fawn, Flatrock, Galena, Calumet, Iroquois, Maumee, Mississinewa, Muscatuck, Ohio, Patoka, Pigeon, St. Mary, St. Joseph, Sand, Tippecanoe, Vermillion, Wabash, Whitewater and Wildcat.

What are some of your favorite river-names that could be used for a ship's shuttles?

The only ones named for rivers are Danube class runabouts, and even then, it seems to be captain's discretion. On Titan, Riker names the shuttles for jazz musicians.

The two rivers I'm surprised were never used were Mississippi and Thames. Then there's Potomac. Seine should be used since ufp headquarters is in paris.

The Mississippi, Thames and Potomac are very good names.

I just mentioned rivers, because an old site had asked this question, earlier. The idea of keeping a common theme for the names of shuttles on the same ship seems appopriate, don't you think? For example, if we were using classical or semi-classical names, I would suggest the Puccini and the Lehar.

Of course, they have used the Rio Grande. I graduated from Baylor University, in Waco, so I thought about the Brazos River. (I can't believe it hasn't been taken, yet.) Also, I attended Southwest Texas State University (its name at that time), so I also thought about the San Marcos River. And, I think the name Pecos would be good.

People would probably think the state of Mississippi, and not the river, same with Missouri, but I think there was a ship called the Missouri, though. I live near Indian River, but that would be as lame a name as you could find. Or how the Hudson?

Yes, Pappy002, you're right about the Mississippi and the Missouri rivers. The Missouri River isn't where you'd expect it! The Hudson would be a good name, too, if it hasn't already been used.

I preferred the idea of astronomers - Galileo, Copernicus etc. What was wrong with that? There should have been a Hawkings too.

In the alternate timeline where harry kim was designing a runabout, didn't it also have a river name?

There are already ships and/or shuttles with those names, so you were right on the money.
