>You do know that a release date has already been set, don't you Tin_Man?

>There was never any talk at any point of the next movie coming out in 2011. It was made clear back when STXIO came out that Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman's schedules would not allow it to be any sooner. SHOULD we have seen the new movie next year? Of course.

>These days, sequels don't come out with the regularity that they used to. I think Lucas set the new standard by his every-three-years pacing of the Star Wars movies - look at back in the day when Sean Connery played James Bond, the films came out almost annually. As time went on, the wait got longer. look how long there was between "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace", and how long has it been since? Even the early Trek movies, Paramount wanted them out every 18 months originally. Part of why they were made under the supervision of Paramount Television, so that they came in on time and on budget.

>It seems the only delay is one you seem to percieve, friend. They are definitely doing another movie. It has been scheduled. The script is in the works. The actors are contacted for three movies total. as I mentioned here or in another thread, for all we know, the script is already done and they're saying it isn't to keep the fans hanging. Stay calm, it will be here as part of that insane movie summer coming in 2012.

It's also entirely possible to set a release date off in the future and then push it back or eventually cancel it altogether, including breaking contracts with signed actors. All of which is a lot cheaper to pay out then risk coming in under in the box office.

That being said if the economy hadn't taken a giant dump I'd be willing to bet that the sequel would have come out in 2011.

You'r eprobably right though that it will come out in the area they are projecting in 2012 for better or worse :-)

I refer you back to my comments about the workload that Abrams, Orci & Kurtzman had already scheduled post STXI - again, it's not likely that the next Trek movie would have been added to that. It won't come out "in the area they are projecting," it will be released on June 29, 2012. The ONLY reason i forsee that changing would be if the movie season that year is just too overcrowded and Paramount moves the release date to the Labor Day weekend to give STXII room to breathe.

Well anyway I agree it probably will come out at some point next year(2012).

You're probably also right about why they are setting it for 2012 instead of 2011. Considering the more than passable box office returns on Trek 09 a sequel is pretty much a no brainer.

We'll just have to see if the econmy is going to be a factor in delaying it, (if it hasn't already) or if Parmaount gets cold feet about Trek lightning striking twice in a row.

If and probably when it does come out, I won't be suckered into seeing it in theatres again.

Don't you know I'm going through MAN-O-PAUSE!!!! I can't take any kind of conflict (SnIfF)

I'm going to hide in the kitchen and eat a whole bag of Doritos and knit a sweater now...
