I do not think that they have the capability at this time, and they are waiting for their developers to come up with code that will do that. I am beginning to wonder if they are using HTML and PHP ???

Bite me's over use of his/her thesaurus aside, there would be a bit of a mess generated by the PM service. For instance, would you be able to block other users, and would the private conversations be recorded? Etc. 

Chuckle. That is my goal.

I think they feel the members are doing fine without the PM system for now, so why take on more work when they still have a lot to do regarding the basic functionality. Hopefully, once they get all the bugs out, they'll revisit the idea.

TPAM - I agree. It seems that they do not monetize this site very well, with running banner ads on all pages, etc. Why not? Most of us are willing to put up with some ads, if the content is good enough on the site.

I was trying to think of reasonable problems that may arise. The only one that I seems substantial is if this board is not coded to fight a large amount of bots and/or spammers an overload of private user information in profiles, friends lists and ultimately private messaging will break their servers.

Personally, I'm a fan of the VBulletin format which is coded for all possibilties of personal interaction.

This boards obvious and most utilitarian purpose is not for our benefit but so that we may discuss their product among ourselves in public and in doing so further promote their product. Which of course I am happy to do.

I just wish they would put more code into the format and/or hire more website engineers.

Well in playing 'devils advocate' I could totally understand them not wanting to put the resources into a PM system right now given the shape this board is in.

I could also understand them believing that this board should be used openly to discuss their product.

However, what if I were to someday to go a convention, for example? The first thing I would do is to come on this board to get info on how things work and who else might be going. A PM function would be very useful in making plans to meet other members from here without having to share personal information first. I'm sure many of the couples that met on this site found that useful as well.

I haven't been on in a while, and I was hoping that when I came back on there'd be a PM function. Yeah, shouldn't have gotten my hopes up.
