I doubt that's true.
Admin aren't ridding the board of these people simply by watching the way they post. And they aren't simply taking the word of people who report duals. They have tools that can trace IP addresses and other such tracking methods. As they said, they will not remove a dual account unless they have sufficient proof. So unless this innocent newbie you speak of was actually posting from the same house as a previously banned member, it's highly unlikely that admin made a mistake. Which account are you speaking of?

By "duel accounts" do you mean people who were banned and then came back, or people who share an email address for their account?

it's either someone who has been banned or comes back, or someone who just makes multiple accounts. I doubt you would be able to register more than one account on a single email addy

Wouldn't have to be the same house. Same region might ping back with similar IPs, enough so to make it look like it was the same person. Cause in point: Public library systems. If I go and use a Knox county Library Comp in say Farragut Township and then someone was using a WiFi up on the Campus on the same network, they could ping close enough for someone to look at the IP and think "must be the same person", even if you run a GeoTrace. (it's a complaint with KCPL's 'net, that I've dealt with personally as an site administrator for a local company that used to have a community page and I ended banning KCPL comps thinking it was a someone running duals). I know my own home static-IP is within 2 or 3 digits of the IP of the Wifi connection of a coffee shop a couple miles up the road and they both trace back to the same region/community; probably a by product of them using a "residential level" Comcast package and just hooking up a wireless router to it.
Point being a IP isn't enough in my mind to cook someone dead stone sure. |
odds aren't really great that this would happen. Even if two peoplw were on these boards that close together geographicaly the odds of the two of them making themselves known to admin seems remote.

You're a-okay to me, Roboto. I agree that there should be a decency in language here, and anywhere. Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom to be vocally offensive, is this not true?

I am not perfect.Shocker. Noone is. But, I do endeavor to not use language online that my mother would have raked me over the coals for saying.

And yet, sometimes insulting someone using intelligent vocabulary is even worse. Much more meaningful than anger and misunderstanding combined to form a string of curses.

But, it IS hardly uncommon elsewhere, gotta say. I think that the internet lends itself, being its nature of relative relaxation of rules, a certain mindset that anything generally goes, to a point. Anyone agree?Just observing the domain....

I can't join you in your favorable furtherance of foul language, especially when it's lauded and used by people with poor vocabularies to get threads deleted. |
I never said I agreed with foul language, just that I don’t find it as insulting as a well thought out put-down. If anything I have always supported good vocabularies, much better to insult someone with words they don’t even understand! Ha. Seriously though, I see not need for swearing, what purpose does it fulfill expect showing everyone you are incapable of using good vocabulary?

I'm the last one to answer that question. Heck, believe it or not, this old trekkie didn't even have a computer until May of '08...something young people of today cannot imagine in most cases. Anyhow, perhaps its how much is monitored and when. I don't know. Again, relative newcomer to the WWW. It comes down to policing yourself. It comes down to what you are told as a child what constitutes proper language. Me, i'm from the bible belt-not that we don't let 'em rip down here like anywhere else-depending on whom the 'ripper' is. Have I said things outside the net Mom would be disappointed to hear me say?Oh yes. I don't want to come off tooo much a hypocrite in my case. I'm just stating what I try to use as a template for chat. Have I gotten angry, and been tempted to let one go?Sure. But, I'm proud to say that publicly, I believe I have kept from that mostly. Ethics are a relative thing, that's just all there is to it. Here's the thing, though. Would you, if you were a superior in some firm, approve of one of your employess letting one go in a meeting, in an also-public venue?Doubt it. But, this is apparently a whole other animal.

Just 267 or ED is fine, doesn’t really matter.
Just another feature ST.com forums are lacking, among the many. Sounds like we need to make an official list attached to a petition. -___-

Ok, I agree with you, 267198ed. Is there a shorter designation you'd prefer?
As stated above, foul language is also a tactic to get threads one doesn't like deleted. It's odd that there was no censure for the users of such profanities on this G rated site.

Wow, my posted didn’t even go through!
267 or ED or whatever is fine.
I basically was saying the ST.com is missing a lot of features, we need to petition, or protest, maybe even riot?! ha
