Vulgar language

Occasionally... I mean, most people do occasionally. I tend to say Frak a bit (I got Frak from BSG, I don't know if it was around before that or not, lol), I don't think its an actual swear word... like, when you refer to the 'F Word' you're not talking about Frak... you're talking about fu**...
Sometimes I might slip a 'vulgar' word... but not as often as most people my age.

>Very good, Janeway. I've checked the source - it's correct. Anyway, I actually belive that statement without such an authority; I was just a little upset that you've used it as confirmation of the statement. But after you've clarified different purpose of the citing - like getting people interested in reading of the text; I've no disagreement with you any more. So, thank you. BTW, it's still better to refrain from emotions, negative in particular .

I'm glad. Despite the disagreement (or probably because of it) I think I like you The Master. Hope to see you around the boards!

>I like vulgar language. Maybe the admin would consider a board that allows it. Does "Free Speech" mean anything to anyone around here? The Supreme Court has ruled on prior restraint!
You obviously do not understand the First Amendment.  This is a private board free speech doesn't apply here.

Not a fan of vulgar language and I recognize it for what it is, self expression from the shallow end of the gene pool. Obviously, I enjoy expressing myself with the four percent of my DNA that separates me from other primates - namely to ability to communicate in words larger than glorified grunts.

On the subject of public forum censorship I am a fan! In my short time on this board I have seen that some people do not know how to censor themselves. I am happy that StarTrek.com decided to incorporate demonstrative behavioral parameters to the forums.

I'm takin no direction and I walk-a real slow, For the words of oppression are go, go, go. Caribbean time in motion, fireflyin across the ocean. And I can see the future.

I believe that was an awsomely cool Big Lebowski reference.

>Since the listener is the one making the interpretation and judgemnet of what enters their ear, wouldn't it be a truer reflection of what is in the hearers heart?

> And what is "Vulgar"?

>Is what Bernie Maddoff (sp?) did vulgar?

>Is calling him an a**hole for doing it Vulgar?

>Is it not vulgar that I just threw out 1 lb. of sliced chicken breast because I let go bad before I used it, when there are children in my community that will go with out breakfast...again?

>Vulgarity is a concept.

>Vulgar language is just another form of speech, and in the hands of a master (Shakespeare, George Carlin) it can be a usefull tool. Like almost every tool man has developed it can also be used as weapon, and weapons in the hands of fools and small children can be quite troublesome.

>IMHO.

Interesting take Beershark.

THANK YOU! [for saying that.] Because that's what I was thinking. And I totally agree with you.

I would like to add that, to many here, what you speak of is only the US Supreme Court and the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Let us couch in global terms.

"What's wrong, Captain Picard?" "What's wrong? I'm a serious Shakespearian actor, and I'm talking to the ambassador of the F**KING WORM PEOPLE!"

Dear Janeway, then I am glad too; and I will likely enjoy further conversations with you too. I just want to add that defending your point of view is comletely normal in real life. Even Ed Witten - the human part of my avatar - has to defense his points of view, despite in the world of theoretical physics he is the greatest authority. No sensible person will believe you without proof, and I hope you do not look for mindless people who do not rationally criticise information they get.

Sometimes I find that "vulgar" language is required.

Telling someone to "go away" is often insuffiecient to get the point across.

Sometimes you NEED to tell people to "f*** off".
