I LOVE this movie. I recently acquired the VHS version from a Half Priced Books. The extra footage is hilarious and wonderful all at once. It takes them forever to get to the center of VGER. I walked away, fixed myself some tea. Came back. They were still trying to make their way inside with no dialogue, just crazy wide-eyed stares and trippy swirly color fx. That said, this movie is a classic and there is nothing like it! The DVD with all the extras is on my Want List.

I liked the costumes too. The later costumes from TWOK onwards were also good, but heavy and a bit old-fashioned. They didn't look very sci-fi to me. And it made everybody red. Now who wants to be dressed in red in Trek I ask you?!!!

No - I far preferred the TMP costumes. They looked space-age, they looked naval without being excessively military - they got the balance about right. I possibly would have had just a bit more colour in them. They were certainly better than the route the costumes went in TNG (both versions) and later shows (way too much black).

If you take away the interminable staring at the view screen, this is a very good movie. My favorite moment is when Kirk visits Enterprise for the first time. After waiting so many years for the franchise to come back to life, that moment gave me the shivers.

The uniforms seem to be designed to show off the packages of the guys wearing them. Check the scene where Kirk walks onto the new bridge for the first time and you'll see what I mean.

>Unfortunately, having a good or even a great director is guarantee you'l get a good or even great movie. Don'y forget that the same mind that gave us 2001 also delivered up (his last film unfortunately) Eyes Wide Shut.

How could I "forget?" Both movies were awesome.

Really? Eyes Wide Shut was awesome? That film was crap, boring crap.

Maybe for the ADD-afflicted.

I thought it was great. Typical mezmerizing and stunning Stanley Kubrick.
