>THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK The cinematography is stunning. Just gorgeous. The movie has all the right instincts. It knows it's job, but the script and Nimoy's direction treat the material with respect. When it makes inside jokes, it does it with appropriate humor. The dark tone is very welcomed. The story, score and effects are all serviceable, yet memorable. And the obvious ending is presented in a manner fitting to the story and given appropriate weight. They just don't make them like they used to ...

The Wraith of Kahn is my favorite TOS movie. Kahn was a great villain.

Perhaps surprisingly, in many respects I like the first film the best. I recognise Star Trek : The Motion Picture had many flaws but it had many strengths as well. It was, at long last, the return of something so any of us had missed for so long. It also had a grandeur later films lacked and although it got bogged down in a kind of 2001 type journey it did have a real epic quality to it.

Who can forget that brilliant segmnt where Scott flies Kirk around the newly refitted ship? Classic.

I also preferred the new uniforms that looked more like futuristic Star Fleet costume to me, rather than the later films with everybody wearing red jackets. I think it has aged well and like the director's cut updated version done recently with improved scenes on Vulcan etc.

Of the others it was generally true that the even-numbered films were better than the odd numbers.
