Although it was a good episode, it totally ruined 8472.

If you can read this it means I've got something to work on here.

"In The Flesh" is not only one of VGR's best episodes, but it's one of Trek's best. I love it when they finally sat down in the Conference Room and hammered out their differences - that is STAR TREK. I disagree with captbates about the episode ruining Species 8472. Gene Roddenberry often complained about the Klingons in TOS always being portrayed as villians and therefore being unrealistic. While GR was probably generalizing, since I can think of one or two exceptions in TOS, Species 8472 was nearly brought to a similiar position in "Scorpion". However, the writers brilliantly saved Speices 8472 by revealing the Borg to have started the war. "In The Flesh" simply showed how both parties, humans and 8472, were merely acting from fear and miscommunication. Star Trek has a history of showing enemies becoming allies, and this episode follows that tradition brilliantly.

I, too, would have loved to see more of them. I honor the idea of friends becoming enemies-it's one of the things about ST I like very much. But, I have to say, Yanks makes a good point in that they made outstanding enemies. I think that perhaps a factional situation could have broken out, and a portion of their race, clinging to the fear and mistrust-the almost-manic phobia of anti-alienness, creates potential problems yet...a factional war maybe broken out, with the extremeists blaming Janeway and co for 'polluting' their people with these notions of trust, misplaced, for Outsiders....anyway, it's a thought...

I loved that episode and think they should have expanded on it in Endgame. Endgame should have shown the crew back on Earth, reunions with the family, the Maquis equitted, etc, and then ended with it being revealed only to the audience that the higher admirals in Starfleet were species 8472. That would have made for a great cliffhanger ending and left the door wide open for a movie or even miniseries.

I like everybody, even the people I don't like. They make things interesting. ;) Trying to get into the Nexus? Use this link: http://s13.zetaboards.com/NexusTrek/index/
