I also don't think the masses should vote for the president either...

Is this a joke? taking to vote away from the people would start another civil war. Who would do the voting anyways? congress? That wouldnt work becuase there would be no cross party voting. If republican congressman from a mostly republican district voted for the democratic candidate who he thought was better he either wouldnt be representing his district or he would get voted out on the next election.
Nope, not a joke. Check your history and the Constitution. It wasn't supposed to be this way. The Senators were to vote for a President. Way too much $$$ wasted allowing stupid people to vote.
i thought it still did work that way? isnt that how GWB lost the pop vote and won the election? The reason its not a straight electoral college vote is becuase they would never cross parties and even if a few did it would be to few to matter most of the time. Which ever house controlled congress would get the white house automatically.
So why waste all that money? It's just stupid. The publicly elected folks should vote him in.

becuase it would be even worse if the congress voted. This novmeber the house and possibly senate are about to turn republican so that means it wouldnt even matter what candidate they choose the republicans would win. That would easily allow major corruption to be viable at the presidential level. When the constitution was written there wernt major political parties and they could vote for whoever they thought would be best. While the idea is good in theory it is irrational and impossible with the current state of politics to ever be put into practice

Quite right. Let me give you the lesson of the EU. Earlier this year the leaders of the EU had the responsibility of appointing the President of the EU. The right-wingers wanted Tony Blair, while the lefties wanted the Spanish socialist Felipe González. Who won out? Neither. Neither side would back down so in the end a compromise candidate was sought. Herman Van Rompuy is his name. No-one, and I mean no-one, wanted him to be president. He lacks charisma or even a personality, doesn't really stand for anything but he doesn't offend or upset anyone either so he's tolerated. That's America's future if the president is ever appointed by those already in power.

Good proposals. The trouble is, any overhaul of the government would need to be enacted...by the government. Even if someone in Congress actually had the cojones to propose something like this, the bill would likely never see the light of day.

If money is your concern why hold any elections? Be like the EU and China and appoint everyone with power. Just don't be surprised when they never listen to the people.
I'm just saying they waste the $$$ on the POTUS election. Not needed.

Its not wasted money, it provides jobs and corruption prevention. The system of elected officials voting was made when there were no political parties and the majority of people werent well educated. It is very out of date and implausible to implement retroactively

Who are you referring to as stupid? These days, with the internet and attendance to debates, people are more educated in what the candidates say, or don't say, that they can make an informed decision and vote accordingly. Implying that the general public is collectively stupid is kind of insulting.

Obama got elected... No executive experience, from corrupt Chicago politics, Marxist/socialist policies.... Yeah, the voters are brilliant!!

Just becuase you dont like a president doesnt mean the voters are stupid. John mcain would have been a better president than obama but hes got one foot in the grave and as bad as obama is palin would have been worse. Its going to be really awful if in the next election we have to choose from a ditsy woman and an unqualified black man, affirmative action gone bad. Even if the congress voted what makes you think they are so much smarter than the general population? Obama would have been one of the ones voting and its obvious you dont think much of him. Do you think a congressman who sexually harasses his under-aged pages is more qualified to vote for president than the average person?

Ha! Like slick Willy? Bill Clinton got away with something that ANY officer or NCO in the military would have been dismissed with an other than honorable discharge. THAT was a disgrace. I don't hate Obama, I HATE EVERYTHING he stands for. The ONLY reason he is president is the Republicans nominated "Bob Dole II" as opposition. McCain had NO CHANCE, ever in that election. Now while I consider McCain "obama light" he was only the lesser of 2 evils. At least we wouldn't have this Healthcare mess. So, because he's the 2nd "black president", can "preach" he is elected to be the leader of the free world. Yes, an Marxist/socialist was elected by the "stupid" because they really have NO IDEA what makes this country different and better than everywhere else. They don't understand the constitution and WHY and how it is different than everywhere else in the world. The only reason Obama won the nomination was because a desperate democratic party new "the stupid" would choose him over McCain. That's why Hillary was ousted, because McCain probably would have beaten her. It was all about power. So, we have the most anti-American/capitalistic administration in the last 70 years because the "stupid masses" get to choose. So, now do you see why it's a waste of $$$$???? All it is is a popularity contest. Obama is a good speaker, and Michelle is pretty and the kids are cute. I guess that and questionable US citizenry get you the most powerful seat in the world. So glad you got to vote.

All of that is totally irrelevant, the congress was in democratic majority at the time of the election so obama would have won anyways. The point being why waste the money? becuase the democrats could have put someone even worse up for candidacy and still won becuase of the congress majority.

Nothing will help the way our government run. we need a whole new government and how it works. there's too many trying to control the country and quite frankly, they are all crooked. everything needs to be changed to a new type of government and ran differently

our votes don't count. if they did al gore would have been president. the government still decides who to choose and what to do. i think they just tell everyone that there votes count that way if something goes wrong they can say ,"well thats what you voted for". its one big lie. our votes don't mean anything and never will.

except the electors vote by what their districts majority has chosen. rarely ever do they go against it and they have never changed the outcome on an election by going against their districts majority. So the people do have the power.

Saying your vote doesnt count is not an opinion. Its a fact that votes do count.
