I agree on term limits as long as congressmen can come back after a certain amount of time off. That way the people can bring back the ones that were doing a good job.

Sorry even the good ones get bogged down by the love of power or they quite after a number of years cuz they can't stand all of the BS that they have to deal with to get stuff done.

Another good reason for term restrictions.

Then it no longer matters for them.

I voted "yes" because I agree overall with what Jack is saying, but think more details need to be ironed out. I don't believe congress should have different rights than the people.

I like everybody, even the people I don't like. They make things interesting. ;) Trying to get into the Nexus? Use this link: http://s13.zetaboards.com/NexusTrek/index/

These arent rights they are job benefits and they are a lot of the same ones you would have at the top levels of big companies.

I also don't think the masses should vote for the president either...

Is this a joke? taking to vote away from the people would start another civil war. Who would do the voting anyways? congress? That wouldnt work becuase there would be no cross party voting. If republican congressman from a mostly republican district voted for the democratic candidate who he thought was better he either wouldnt be representing his district or he would get voted out on the next election.

Not any more. Under the new healthcare system companies will be penalized for giving special treatment to officers. Tell me does the government get penalized for giving special treatment to congress? It seems the only way to receive special treatment and even a pay raise is to become a member of congress and then make that decision for yourself.

The govt isnt a company and the penalties you speak of are just more taxes so what would be the point of the govt taxing itself?

Nope, not a joke. Check your history and the Constitution. It wasn't supposed to be this way. The Senators were to vote for a President. Way too much $$$ wasted allowing stupid people to vote.

i thought it still did work that way? isnt that how GWB lost the pop vote and won the election? The reason its not a straight electoral college vote is becuase they would never cross parties and even if a few did it would be to few to matter most of the time. Which ever house controlled congress would get the white house automatically.

You were not really talking about term restrictions you are talking about a forced break

A "forced break" is, by definition, a restriction.

We had an 18 year old elected to the Federal Parliament (of Senate?) in the recent election.I think that's rediculous, anyone under the age of 30 should not even be allowed to run for a seat in the federal or state government, they have no life experience and I don't care how smart they are, they'll not be an effective representatives.

I'm a fan of the saying "if you're good enough you're old enough". One of Britain's greatest prime minister's was the 24 year old Pitt the Younger. He entered Parliament at age 22.

So why waste all that money? It's just stupid. The publicly elected folks should vote him in.
If money is your concern why hold any elections? Be like the EU and China and appoint everyone with power. Just don't be surprised when they never listen to the people.
