I think Zial's death was one of the saddest in all of Star Trek, what about you?

Although her death was genuinely tragic, it's strange to think of how far reaching the implications of Zial's death were, ultimatley being the catalyst for Dukat's descent into madness and Damar's ascension to leader of the Cardassion Union (and of course leading on to his role as leader of the Cardassian rebellion).

How different would things have been had she not died...?

Ziyal's dead allowed the character of Gul Dukat to become even more interesting than he already was. And I gotta say, Melanie smith was absolutely beautifull as ziyal

I think Tora Ziyal's death was one of the most heart-wrenching in all of the series combined. Part of it had to do with the reaction of her father (Dukat).

Her death made me sorry for Garrett. He seemed much more alone after her death.

What I don't like about Zial's death is who killed her... Damar. When Damar killed Zial in cold blood he was still just Gul Dukat's first officer and was a relatively unimportant character... could it be that the script for all the future episodes, where Damar becomes a "noble" rebellion leader and major character in the storyline, was not written yet when they decided to make him kill Zial?? I mean, I would've identified and sympathized SO MUCH MORE with Damar in his final days when his family was killed and everything if I didn't have to consider the fact that he killed Zial in such a cruel manner... if there's ONE thing I would have to re-write in that whole series( I LOVED DS9), it would only be that I would have made some unknown Cardassian officer kill Zial, not Damar...but that's just me...

Hmmm... ThotGor your opinion is lightly different from mine. It is better that Damar, a character that would later be more main, killed her rather than some random Cardie. I do think Damar is an annoying dick though!

Matthias Russel, do you mean Garak?

Oops, my bad. I meant Garak.

I'm with Gor. I had a hard time reconciling the 2 sides of Dumar. Seasons 5 and 6 set him up as wholly devoted to the cause of Cardassian expansionism but the Kanar reformed him!?! Someone compared the Cardassians to Nazis, maybe he is right and Dumar is like Himler. But then, the UFP never should have been willing to work with him. Oh well, in the end he got what he deserved.

24thcenstfan, Yea, I guess thats why it was sad for me. Dukat's reaction was HUGE! When I first saw the episode, when the shot was fired I thought it was Dukat! Heh. I was proven wrong seconds later when I saw Damar.
