Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, to all you other Trek fans! I still really need more cortical stimulator information. I found that maybe I can use a magnetic frequency of 423 on the human. This means that the part of the brain I want (cortical cortex) will respond to that frequency. Babies are about the same. Only a 1-5 difference. Do you think this could work?

I REALLY NEED INFO!!!!

The frequency 528hz is suppose to help repair and/or stimulate DNA.

they use them to stimulate the corticle nerves or something? you know they use them to stimulate the brain and keep the person alive. i think they also use it to shock the brain and revive them like the doctors now use those big block things to shock people to revive them. i dont know for sure if thats right though, hope it helps!

I wonder what effect a cortical stimulator would have on a human patient who was not almost dead.  Does it give the brain a jolt?  Would it produce psychedelic effects if the person were awake?

Would it need to be boosted in power, to help a Klingon?

Located in Senegal, Africa, in the year 2211, is the city of Estradas Energia. Cerebral palsy is the focus medical issue, and the city’s goal is to prevent anyone from having any impairment caused by this disorder.  Approximately 30,000 people had cerebral palsy but are now cured, due to Estradas Energia’s innovative technology.

Symptoms of cerebral palsy can be awkward movements and uncontrolled muscle spasms. Patients are incapable of moving with ease and may also have mental retardation.  Though not a fatal condition, victims have difficulty walking, moving, and living without assistance which severely impacts their life quality.

Preventable prenatal maternal infections such as urinary tract infections, rubella, sepsis, chorioamnionitis, and toxoplasmosis as well as substance abuse can cause cerebral palsy in unborn babies. Low birth weight, premature birth, or cervical and uterine abnormalities can also pose the risk of cerebral palsy. Lack of oxygen at birth can contribute to cerebral palsy as well. Uncured, cerebral palsy patients need constant care.

There are several potential solutions to deal with cerebral palsy.  Technology has been developed to more quickly and effectively treat the disorder.  Previously, physical therapy was the treatment used, but it required years to be moderately or even slightly successful, and it was time consuming and expensive.  Engineers developed a holographic environment simulator, which accurately senses body movements producing more effective physical therapy. However, physical therapy alone still takes many months for some recovery.

In the past, doctors also cooled the brain to reduce the severity of cerebral

palsy. This prevented the body from trying to repair itself and causing more damage. Cool water was circulated around the head, while a heat lamp was used to keep the body’s core temperature up.  Although the cooling reduced severity, it was not a cure. Cerebral palsy also had to be diagnosed shortly after birth otherwise the damage set in.  Access to treatment was limited, and cerebral palsy was difficult to diagnose within two hours.

Another more technological solution to the problem is the Diagnostic Sensing Device (DSD), which diagnoses cerebral palsy and instantly informs the healthcare team. The DSD is a hand-held sensor that a medical technician uses to scan the body to check vital signs, neural activity, organ functions, and more.  On the DSD there are 235 sensors that use active scans which travel through the body and passive scans which are less invasive.  When the device detects an anomaly, it displays the details on the DSD screen.  The DSD can sense the micro-electric impulse connections between brain cells making a cerebral palsy diagnosis immediate and painless.  The DSD is used because it is quick, portable, user friendly, and highly accurate and does not produce any side effects.

The Micro-Electric Impulse Stimulator (MEIS) creates a specific intensity magnetic field.  Babies diagnosed with cerebral palsy receive light sedation through a mask to limit movement during the procedure.  The MEIS modules are attached to a cap placed on the baby’s head.  When the MEIS is activated, it interacts with the brain’s existing micro impulses stimulting the production of new connections.  The procedure only needs to be performed once because the MEIS is highly effective and has been proven to cure cerebral palsy in infants.

Magnetic beam intensity is vitally important because if the frequency is too high, the micro-electric impulses are too strong so they don’t work.  If beam intensity is too low, the procedure looses effectiveness.  With the addition of the DSD, it is improbable for this to occur because the DSD also computes the proper frequency setting for the MEIS.  Another drawback is that infants need to be sedated; however, physicians in Estradas Energia are highly trained in the process.

The MEIS is an innovative technology of the 23rd century.  Since this city specializes in the treatment of cerebral palsy, people from all over come to Estradas Energia.  Expectant mothers and families come to be cured or have their children cured using a combination of technologies.  Expectant mothers are checked regularly with the DSD in the easily accessible healthcare facilities to prevent harmful infections.  Immediately after birth, all infants are given an examination with the DSD to check for abnormalities.  Treatment with the MEIS begins without delay.  The MEIS revitalizes the nervous system by stimulating the production of the brain’s micro-electric impulses where there are few.  This works because the brain cells are not truly “dead” as it is commonly assumed. Instead, these cells’ connections are dysfunctional.  Used directly after birth, the MEIS is a one time, noninvasive and pain free cure for cerebral palsy.

An added benefit to the procedure is that approximately 59% of the children who receive this treatment perform better in school. This occurs because the MEIS increases connections between the cells, which factors into a child’s intelligence. Overall, the MEIS has no adverse effects and patients do not require further monitoring.

In some cases because patients are treated months to years after birth, some physical therapy sessions are required.   After an initial treatment with the MEIS,  virtual medicine comes into play in therapy sessions.  The patients will relearn how to walk, eat, and function. These people require at least 2-3 weeks of therapy which takes place in a holographic environment simulator much like the ones used for education and recreation in Estradas Energia. The HES provides a comforting environment which might include therapy while walking up a hill or swimming and is interactive by sensing the patient’s body movement.

Biomedical engineers played a part in the development of technologies. They worked with neurology specialists, software engineers, computer programmers, and sensor experts to design the MEIS.  Other engineers that were important in this process were the mechanical and electrical engineers; they contributed to making the device mechanically correct. They made it possible for the MEIS to cure cerebral palsy and be compact and portable. Without these engineers, cerebral palsy would still be a concern for people around the globe.  In 2211, cerebral palsy is a minor stepping stone on the way to happy and healthy living.
