Quote: willowtree @ Feb. 11 2011, 5:09 am | >The fact that they became a couple didn't bother me in and of itself. You don't choose who you fall in love with. Being on the senior staff together they spend enough time together that they could have developed feelings. What I didn't like was that we weren't shown anything leading up to it. We saw one episode where Seven was on the holodeck and "Chakotay" was there. Since after that there was no more mention of it, I always just assumed he was a peron she picked to practice being human with. But then there was an episode where they wree stranded on the plante together. Surely there was a chance to start showing some sparks between them. But now If they had just shown the two of them interacting a little more, talking more, eating an occasional dinner together it would have been easier to swallow. Plus as others have said they simply had no on screen chemistry. That's one of the things I loved so much about the Tom and B'Elanna relationship. We watched them grow from barely tolerating each other, to become friends, to developing a flirtation, to dating, to married with a baby on the way. |
Well said Although I painfully disagree with what you said about there being no relationship between C&Janeway........ ARRRH so annoying

I saw Jeri Ryan at the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas last year and she had hoped that her love interest would have been the doctor. Much to everyone's delight Robert Picardo was in the audience and surprised her with a question of his own. Even after all this time, they still click.
I too prefer the J/C pairing but we all know in real life, sometimes people get together, even for a short time, even though they have no business being together.

It made me SO MAD when I watched the 7/C scenes in Endgame! I wanted to chuck my limited edition luchbox at the TV screen. Seven and Chakotay had absolutely no chemestry whatsoever and was primarily just something that was put in last minute to attract viewers. Which it didn't! Seriously, Seven and Chak were even more like enimies during the first few seasons she was there. And she's almost half his age! I would have liked to see her with The Doctor. At least they were already good friends, and The Doctor would be able to help her so much more with her sociality.
And Janeway would have been an awsome parter for Chak. They had chemestry, and they both were very good friends from even before Seven came aboard. They were perfect for eachother! Seven just came in and snached Chakotay away from Kathryn before she even had a chance. Why does nothing come out the way we want to?

Completely made no sense. I feel insulted as a Trekkie to see this thrown randomly in there. I mean 7 seasons of VOY and in the series finale they throw it in? Outrageous! Chakotay should definitely have paired up with Janeway. If they had, it would have made even MORE sense for Janeway to go back in time.

I don't get all the Chakotay and Janeway pairing stuff. She made it clear she was not interested in a relationship with anyone under her command.

I do believe it was seven-of-nine, who while following the Doctors guidelines for developing relationships, chose Chakotay to be her lover. Can't think of the episode at the moment. Seven believed that Chakotay was the best match for her.

Chakotay and Janeway had chemistry, and the relationship WORKED on so many levels. The whole Chakotay / Seven thing was so contrived, it is no wonder that Beltran had issues in his final year on the show.

I agree that Seven and Chakotay didn't fit together as a couple. I could see Janeway and Chakotay but not them. Some of you said Seven and the Doctor, granted he was in love with Seven but I don't think Seven felt the same way about him. Seven and the doctor would have been like B'Elanna and Chakotay IMO. Seven and Harry didn't really work out. And if B'Elanna wasn't in the picture I could have seen Seven hooking up with Tom...but I'm glad that Tom hooked up with B'Elanna because they made a good couple. Personally I think they should have just left Seven alone to continue exploring her humanity before throwing her into a relationship. The way they did it was totally lame and unbelievable.

They could have paired up when VOY got back to Earth, and we could have seen this inferred during the Series Finale...

Beltran had issues with the show from the first season, because he wasn't the star of the show

Good advice. Full Circle by Kristin Beyer is one of the best Star Trek books ever written, and does a magnificent job of reconciling some of the conflicting post series novels.

It was WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!
They spent all this time setting up the Doctor/Seven romance thing, and now they sddenly throw him out and put in Chakotay?
WHY? Why waste all those episodes they spend on the Doctor and Seven?
Call me Doc, 'k? StarTrek.com's Resident Holographic Whovian since 2010.
