I really enjoyed Abrams Reboot of Star Trek. I read an article that compared the destruction of Vulcan to 9/11: shock factor, you don't see it coming, it seems impossible, "no, it REALLY won't happen", but then it does. Very well made film.
I agree with "Men at Work": new aliens, new scenarios.
I'd like to see either another shock factor (nothing too extreme) or something completely different. The story has to be original, capture my attention, comedy in dialogue and acting, and GOOD acting.
I look forward to Star Trek XII and wait in anticipation for the basic jist of the what the film will be about.

No Khan, no Borg. Originality and creativity; that's what I'd like to see for the next movie.
"Captain, life is not a dream." - Spock
"Can you please continue the petty bickering? I find it quite intriguing." - Data

I like the idea from ServalanFan: making Spock choose. What about having younger Spock being approached by some rouge Vulcans to lead a resistance (throw in a "resistance is futile...sounds logical.") He approaches Spock Prime, who happens to be hiding on Romulas (tying in the arc-episode from TNG). This then leads to them making a pact with the Klingon High Council to take out Romulus as a rising power (revenge for the 47 Klingon Warbirds and Vulcan) which would tie in to the Romulan War. Younger Spock leaves and the Enterprise has to get him back, help the fleet fight off the rebel Vulcans and Klingons. Throw in some space battles as well as ground battles. Maybe show the Romulan Capital being destroyed and having Spock Prime die, for real this time.
I just want something new, familiar, AND original.

Let's not be too hasty! Between Uhura's Listening Post and Spock's Public Displays of Affection ... Uhura's kept busy, enough. No ... I think she'll have to content herself with that time she had to take the command chair in one of the cartoon episodes.

Always using my love of NEXT GENERATION against me, ... to bolster your own arguments!!!
Who cares what Uhura's capable of?! She answers the phones! And nurse Chapel's one of the ship's caregivers. If we wanted to see anyone ELSE as the captain they'd already BE the captain! Anybody's potential is rhetorical.
When VOYAGER gets rebooted, and they cast Chaz Bono as Janeway, that's another matter, and I'm all in favor of it ...

In the latest issue of Star Trek Magazine, it was reported that William Shatner has shown interest in appearing in ST 12 and working with JJA. I think the powers that be would be remiss in not taking advantage of an obvious, and golden opportunity, if they werre NOT to cast Shatner as Tiberius Kirk, James Kirk's grandfather and middle namesake, as aluded to in St 11's opening sequence.
I would further suggest that Shatner, if cast as Tiberius Kirk, be portrayed as a lone-rogue (with maybe an interesting partner or two), space- trader- ala the guy (whose name I forget) who first traded Tribbles in the original TV series.
This could even set Shatner up to be in more sequels, or pair him once more with Leonard Nimoy, and his ST 12 Spock, with a new twist on their relationship. And -- it could open the door to numerous Star Trek alumni-actors, from all of the series, in either cameos, or new roles in subsequent sequels. Cool ideas, huh?
Now that I'm rolling-- they should have just hired Me to write the next script.

Those sound like good ideas. Although, why not just bring Kirk back from the dead like they did with Spock somehow? And also..can I help you write?

Hasn't this flick already started shooting?
It seems a little late to be coming up with ideas for it, now ...

I can't find any reliable information on the next movie. But it seems likely that the answer to both questions is "no." Keeping everything a mystery worked for the reboot and made perfect sense. Now, the tactic seems a little tired, to me ...

Mysterious hype (along with lens flares) is JJ Abrams modus operandi.
