Would DS9 have been even better with Ro Laren as the Bajoran lead?

I liked Kira as a character, and without her the series would not be the same. Whether the change would be for better or for worse is hard to say—it's difficult to compare 9 episodes to 7 seasons.

>It's a hard question, because I do really like Kira, and I would've loved to have Ro on DS9. I know people thought she was too abbrasive, but Kira was that way too at first. I don't think having 3 people on DS9 from TNG would've been an issue, because as Q points out on Q-Less, O'Brian was one of the "little people" and Ro was too. Plus if Ro had been on there, who knows how differently things may have happened. Worf might not have even been on DS9. I think it would've been interesting to see Ro, both a Bajorin and in Starfleet. I'd have loved to see Sisko promote her to either full liuetenant or Lieutenant Commander, and then full Commander when Sisko makes Captain.
Michelle Forbees was asked to be the Bajoran officer on Deep Space Nine. But she turned it down. She does not like long term contracts. She likes reaccuring roles. then moves on. Its how she likes doing her trade. She was asked again to be Voyager but turned it down too. I just read a interview today with her online. She wants people to stop asking her about Star Trek, it was a long timae ago, she hardly remembers the 9 episodes she was in and has done many more roles since she'd like to talk about. she says in it.

That's a shame if she feels like that, or perhaps it's understandable that being asked about the same Trek episodes over and over would get tedious.

Bottom line though, from my point of view she was a nobody until Ensign Ro catapulted her into the limelight. Maybe some of you guys knew of her before TNG but it doesn't look like she was being offered any big film roles until Star Trek made her popular. Kalifornia was a good break for her, and it's been great seeing her is some of our favourite TV shows. I'd have preferred to see he stick around for longer on even just one of those shows.

If you can read this it means I've got something to work on here.

Maybe Michelle Forbes doesn't care about STAR TREK.
Actors don't have to be fans of the franchise they
happen to be guest-starring in and that's cool.
Michelle is an ALPHA babe, all the way. The first
movie I saw her in was ESCAPE from L.A. and it was
clear, she didn't need any franchise to find work.
She was always hot, talented and very cool.

I loved Kira and Im sure Michelle would have had a different spin as RO, she was great on the Enterprise one of the best things about DS9 was how the opened up the Bajorins like no other species in any series

It would have been really interesting to have seen Ro on DS9, it would have been great to develop the character more. I didn't like the Maquis thing.

It wouldn't have made sense in terms of the story. Bajor needed a liason officer to represent Bajoran interests on the station. To do that, the officer's first loyalty should be to Bajor, as a member of their militia, not to Starfleet. Besides, Ro was too young to leave Starfleet then join the Bajoran service, and rise to a senior officer's rank.

I don't think it would have improved the show any. Visitor did a great job.

I do like reading of their initial personality clash in the Avatar books. Because if Kira and Ro did meet, they are both so headstrong that they would clash in that way, I think.

Ro on DS9 would have been different. Better? Not necessarily. But not necessarily worse. Just a different dynamic.

No

Kira worked perfectly on the show by allowing a non-Starfleet voice to be heard.

Kira is Star Trek's strongest female character, played to perfection by Nana Visitor.

Kira never had much appeal to me though I respect the character greatly. She was very conflicted, strong yet soft. I liked Ro better but having her in the cast may have hurt the show by having more connections to tng and inhibiting the show's ability to stand on its own. One character transfer helped you relate a bit and by the time worf came over, the show had established itself so it wasn't like worf carried the show.

I don't know if DP9 would have been better, but a welcomed addition, like Miles and Worf her charactor was already established, but I guess she did not want to get portray cast like many of the other actors.
