Kirk tried to keep it concealed as much as  possible. But his arm was really killing him. Having fallen down a Jefferies tube he headed for sickbay as inconspicuously as possible. It was then that Ensign Checkov chose to report his findings in some experiment he'd been running. Trying not to grimace Kirk nodded as if he understood or was even able to listen over the searing pain in the arm which had taken the brunt of the fall. And as soon as Checkov was thoroughly pleased with himself Kirk wheeled into sickbay.

"Well? What is it?" McCoy barked.

"Did something to my shoulder..."

"Um hmm," the Doctor said running a medical scanner over the arm. "What did you do?"

"Uh, fell, actually." Kirk muttered.

"You fell?"

"Down a Jefferies tube. No one saw..."

"Fat chance of getting me to go rock climbing with you on Deneba next week!"

"Bones, it was just a misstep..."

"Yeah, the kind that get would-be rock climbers killed."

He turned to Nurse Chapel. "Prep the bone regenerator beam, Nurse. Our Captain has a fractured clavicle."

"But my arm hurts."

"Transference of pain. I'll give you a couple cc's of quadradone and you'll feel fine."

"You'll be sore for a few days," Chapel added.

So Jim,"McCoy said running the bone healing laser device over his shoulder... "have you given much thought to the altered timeline?"

"Not really."

"Huh." McCoy sneared and set down the device and grabbed a medical tricorder to check on the progress It was easier than getting Kirk up onto a bio bed which would monitor the progress automatically.

"Jim, I don't know if it's ever occurred to you, but since the pointed-eared invasion from the future, our universe has not been quite right."

"Oh, come one, Bones. The Universe?"

"I'm serious." the Enterprise Chief surgeon said momentarily putting the tricorder he'd been waving over Kirk's arm and shoulder.

"I've been busy running the ship, Doctor. Besides, Starfleet Command got Spock Prime to agree to a debriefing that should only take a few weeks and then he's off to the Vulcan Colony. They have a lot of brilliant minds workig on this.

"That's the thing, Jim. When I tried to get through to the green blooded hobgobblin I could not get through. I had some leave time coming and was going to offer my services at the new colony for a few weeks."

"You on a colony with Vulcans?"

"Yeah, well they've been hit pretty hard. ANd you don'y kick a man when he's down. You help him up."

Kirk was holding back a smile."You know how red tape and politics can isokate people like that, nevermind he's the sole survivor from the future."

"That's what I tried to tell myself when I went to his room at Starfleet."

"So that's where you were off to. You missed a great climb at El Capitan."

"Somehow I doubt you broke  any records."

"Not the point. Just being there to be climbed was reason enough for me. Fobos on Deneba will be an even greater climb."

"Yeah... well, Spock Prime's room was empty like no one had been there since before he even got here."

"Ok, so you went to the wrong room."

"Jim, I may be a bit of a country doctor, but I gratuated at the top of my class in med school and at the academy."

"Ok. When I've finished making the rounds, I'll get in touch with somebody I know at Starfleet."

"I don't think it's quite serious enough to open an investigation with the brass."

"Not to worry. Boothby is not one of the brass."

To Kirk's surprise, Boothby hadn't heard a thing. And he usually did. Especially when it involved someone as significant as Spock Prime.

In his stateroom Kirk had Uhura patch through a communicae to the new Vulcan Government. "Sarek, thank you for taking my call."

"You are most welcome, Captain. How may I help you?"

"I have been unable to locate Spock Prime and was wondering if you had any idea how I might contact him or when he'd be back to the Vulcan Colony?"

"Spock Prime was due back from Starfleet two weeks ago."

"And you've not heard from him?"

"No."

"That's odd. I'll look into it further and get back with you, Prime Minister Sarek."

"Vulcan Colony out."

If the transwarp angle takes off with intragalactic travel possible it would change things like the title of the Federation to the Galactic Federation of Planets or the United Federation of Galaxies....

Point being... the reboot of Star Trek  does not have to stay in the old molds and the universe is the limit!!!

What I think, whether shown or not, is the potential effects in the new reality for the relationship between the UFP and Romulus-how, as said elsewhere, the knowledge that Pike, and Kirk posess about the fate of Romulus in the other reality...and the potentiality of it happening again. Now, I was reading a post that someone here at st.com made re the new timeline, and how the quantum effects would probably ripple outward...maybe that would change that purely physical natural event, I don't know...but, dramatically, to me this COULD set up, as the Abramsverse exists in creative theory, a means of loking at that core AQ relationship in a new way, on a new time frame from the PU. You know it has to be in the back of Spock Prime's mind, absorbed as he is in the effort to help establish a new colony. I am sure he would at the very least be hopeful that his younger self here would be open to the 'possibilities' that lay before the Federation, perhaps being able to reach out to the Empire, and establish a connection years before. It wouldn't happen overnight, or without much work, but it could occur....

Interesting points.

I had in mind in my Star Trek 12 storyline that at present is in bits and pieces waiting to be assembled...

an aliance with Romulus and Earth. A temporal cold war agent will give Kirk and crew the technological know how to build the transwarp engines needed to get get Spock Prime to the correct singularity (in a distant galaxy) to restore him to his own timeline (universe). Only the nacelles needed are only in Romulan vessels (in particular the almond sliver shaped nacelles introduced in ENT). Time is of the essence so the crew tries unsuccessfully to hijack a Romulan war bird only to form an alliance when captured to prevent the eventual destruction of Romulus.

The alliance will set off Klingon skirmishes which the Romulans mostly deal with while the New Federation (Federation of Galaxies or Galactice Federation of Planets, I haven't decided which yet) is being formed and will eventually include this timeline's Klingons... at which time they will be given the transwarp technology the other alies have and the Klingons have been trying to fight for or steal.

Lots of story possibilities along these lines.

And why would 23rd Century Romulus have any reason to believe ridiculous Terran/Vulcan claims that sometime in the future Romulus will be destroyed...?

Romulus of the era of TOS had no desire to make friends with the Federation...

Well at the end of Trek Nemesis the commander of the Romulan ship that help Picard did say you now have a new ally (may not be the exat words but that what it ment.
