Wow.. reading through this was depressing. It would be much more interesting if there had been any mention of politics.
Now, I'm not American but Norwegian, over here we vote for parties not people. It seems strange to me to vote for a person. We would never get stuck with a presient because of who he or she is, but because of the party he or she represents. Political commercials are banned, but there still is some "hidden" anti and pro stuff for various parties on the news and debate programs. I think some would say we're not truly democratic because of the way the elections work.
Anyway I just wanted to ask what you think about it. Do Americans vote for the person or for the party or for his/her political standing? I've never been to America and don't know any Americans so I'm really just curious how you see it.
Resistance is futile. You will all love Star Trek.

Aha. Over here we've got 8 parties (and more but they are so small they don't count). It's a little bit more difficult to play dirty over here but they still do a good job of it hehe.
I've been told that candidates from the same party can have very different standpoints and still represent the same party.
Over here members of the various parties allways have to represent the views and ideals their party stands for, even if they dissagree with some things. (When they are speaking publicly I mean, they're allowed to dissagree privately offcourse) Would a presidential candidate have the same restraints in America, or are those things up to the candidate?

The vast majority of Americans vote by party because the focus is more on the political parties than anything else. And many politicians will vote based on what their party's bosses order them to instead of their personal beliefs.

I see, almost. How come there is more than one candidate from each party trying for president?

That's only during the primaries where each party determines who they want in office. During the general election, there's only one candidate.
Sadly, there's almost no difference between the two major parties.

Just once I'd like to open this thread and see something about something he did right.

Sorry but this guy has me in the poor house.
Cant afford the smal business taxes or Obamacare, other regulations passed since he took over make it nearly impossible to start a business now. Children are born 53 thousand dollars in debt, and still there are those whom believe he is the saviour of a generation...
There is a word for that last part...
Insane.

When someone chooses to go against thier oath and country, they're going to be wrong.
But I'd much rather have someone in office who actually believes in the Constitution and protecting our liberties instead of destroying them.

Obama is doing alot of good things, inspite of the Republicans getting in his way..Besides, if he was bad President and not following the constitution as some claim, would he re-elected ?

Greatness comes to those who really want to do anything to get it.

Obviously he was re-elected even though he's not following the US Constitution. Why? Of those that actually voted (not just registered) in the last election:
- 70% don't know that the US Constitution is the supreme law of the land.
- 62% cannot name all three branches of the US government
- 65% cannot explain the role of the judicial branch.
"Every member of the State ought diligently to read and to study the Constitution of this country...[By] knowing their rights they will sooner perceive when they are violated and be the better prepared to defend and assert them." - John Jay, First Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

Just because one dosen't name braches of the Government dosen't make one less of an American, it's what you do in america that counts..Obama got re-elected because he embrace everyone, not just the middle age white males who voted for Romney who got akward when it came to Hispanics and illegal immigration..Republicans has excluded ethnic groups for years, that's why their throwing Marco Rubio out there to make up for it..

BamBam is not saying that individuals are less American, because they can't name the three branches of government; rather that these people don't know their own Constitution and are electing rhetorically minded politicians that blantantly defy the Constitution.
The Republican Party has indeed ignored ethnic groups for years. But both parties have ignored the Constitution for a century now (actually longer, but the politicians at least pretended to adhere to the Constitution in the early 20th Century).

hahah.... now you're changing arguments.... This isn't about one's ignorance making someone less of an American - it's about pointing out your argument was incorrect. Ignorance isn't a smart way to vote.
If Obama has "embraced everyone," then why does he hate the US Constitution and attacks everyone that supports it? Why does he continue to attack Christians?
There's really not much difference between Obama & Romney when it comes to government programs, so people really didn't have a choice between different views. (at least if you believe in a two-party system where both parties have the same goals.)
As for Republicans and ethnic groups.... all's I know is that the Democrats keep lying about history and promising more and more stuff to different people. Maybe you should watch ZoNation and learn something.
For me... I prefer candidates who uphold the Constitution of the USA, not some political party platform.
