I loved Captain Janeway. She was a strong character and I thought she was a good captain. She worked hard to get her crew home. She in a lot of ways was much like Captain Kirk.

Are you asking WHY we love Janeway?? Well then, here's my answer:
I love Janeway because she was alway very strong and definite in her choices and responses to crisis. But, she could and would often take advice from others (especially Chakotay) and listened to their opinions, too. She also was very relatable to most people, I think. I also loved that she was the first female Captain (but that was the writers, not the character). I also loved that even though she WAS very strong, she was also very vulnerable at times. It really added to her character's depth, I thought.

I love her and after Kirk she is my favourite Captain; she rocks and looks great doing it.
Over the years, Star Trek has inspired people of all races and nationalities to strive toward a future where all of mankind’s ills could be healed, where technology worked for the good of everyone, where the unknown was something to be curious about rather than something to be frightened of.

She's does the trick. Big things come out of small packages.
It's strange, being a catalyst for things that move outside.

It was about time a woman was the lead role especially with Kate Mulgrew. So yes I think that Captain Janeway is a great captain.

I think shes the worst captain. She kept flip flopping on weather or not the violate the prime directive and i lost all respect for her when she was wrong chakotay called her on once she really stepped past the line and then she still wouldnt back down. I just dont understand how she could justify violating the prime directive and killing thousands of the swarm species to shave 2 months off a 70 year journey and then punish Paris so harshly when he breaks it to save a lot of lives

I have read these criticisms of her on boards, -her PD choices, her varied moods, or swings of this and that..but, quite frankly..for me, the critiques, and we all have right to our OPs, mean zero. She's without question my second favorite female ST character. I love her bonds with her closest friends-Kes, being the most obvious, and especially 'Kotay(poor, maligned char he often is, I like him) and Tuvok(''YOH'' one of the best examples)and her 'other kids' Tom and Lanna(Her return-to-the-living scene in ''Barge of'' a fave scene with Kath of mine)and yes, while not into Seven, they did much with their connection.Kate, for me, did a great job with her. I rank her right up there with Jim Kirk, and, another captain, Jonathan Archer, my favorite leaders among the captains group. She was committed to her crew, tenacious as a bulldog, and embraced the idea that they could still explore a true final frontier, while making their way home.

Im not saying janeway is a bad captain, certainly starfleet has a lot worse. (especially with the % of corrupt admirals, WTF was up with that anyways?) But of the captains we have to choose from i think as far as command decisions shes is at the bottom. She was a great person, but id rather have an ass for a captain that made better decisions than a friendly captain that didnt make as good ones. If i ranked the captains it would be Sisko, Archer, Kirk, Picard then Janeway.
