Is this game worth the money?

I'm going to be as nice as possible and not use any offensive language.  This game vacuumates.  What does a vacuum-cleaner do?

There are no Star Trek ideals in this game.  It's nothing but a kill-monger's game.  Plenty of MMO's on the Internet with this same style.  This one just happens to ABUSE the Star Trek icons.  I say abuse because all this game does is promote how much the federation hates other species not part of its little elite group.  If you're not federation, forget diplomacy, you get the ole fed-shaft up the ole alien-chute.

Everything in this game is kill-kill-kill.  I've been playing it since Open Beta.  Quit in February.  Reinstated my account with the coming Season 1.  Stayed on till one week into Season 2.  Quit again.  Nothing changed, except that some items WANTING to obtain can no longer be obtained by a Vice Admiral, even if those wanted items are more advanced than the current items being sold at Vice Admiral level.

Still the only way to level decently is the kill-kill-kill ... "what?  did you think I was here to be diplomatic?  screw you, you're dead sukka" ... and then kill-kill-kill some more because I'm not sure they were dead method.

Plus some bugs from the game before season 1, including new bugs from season 1 have been carried over to season 2.

It's sickening.  It makes me sick to even look at that icon on my desktop start-bar.  But I leave it there because I'm hoping they will make some improvements in the diplomatic side of the game in their next season upgrade.  Fat chance.

Kitchen is right about there being many flaws, especialy in the kill kill kill nature of the game. But its being broadened, they just added diplomacy missions, which are simplistic, but it's a start. It is hard to make a game out of the more 'mental' aspects of the series. Though there is a lot of combat, there is good story woven in, and the story is pretty good.

It's a great game and it always ran smoothely for me, until the release of season 2.

'Server not responding' every 10 to 15 seconds. Ships dont fly anymore, they lag from one frame to another. If I try to log in, I'm kicked out almost 6 times before I can get into the game. If I fire weapons, they apear 3 seconds later wich makes it impossible to anticipate my opponent's moves. It has become unplayable in every sense of the word. The server just can't handle the amount of data it is processing.

dont get me wrong the game was great, ran perfect, but one day it just decided, to hell with you and your computer.

the answer to your question, is yes if you want to taste it, but no if you want to commit yourself to the game

I have playing and been subscribed since Beta. I personally love the game. It's not necessarily complicated but you do have to advance your character and select the appropiate skills that go with you career choice. For example you have an Science officer, you can route him to be a healer and "heal" your team or you can him be more of a support role for the group with combat abilities.

The space combat is very good (and probably the best). You can select your ship and you have to outfit your ship with various different levels of phasers, torpedos, shields and other things. It really resembles Starfleet Command 3 (for those of you that played it).

I think the game is selling for 20 dollars now but they do have free trials out there. It is the best Trek game on the market in the sense that new stuff and updates are being released.

I highly recommend the latest feature to the game. Think of it as STO's version of a weekly tv series. The player base is really enjoying them.

Been looking into getting this for months now. Unfortunately my allowance is somewhat - restricted, no where near enough to be able to play monthly. I'm trying to strike a deal with my parents so they will let me play, something like "I'll do the lawns every week if you pay for me to play this game".

How much is it to play monthly?

Depends on if you pay monthly, in 3 month intervals or pay for unlimited, which is like $200, once for all time. If you get on, let me know, we'll have to play together.

That'd be awesome Matthias Russel, but it may be a while. Possibly not till next year.

A subscription could be a holiday present. Did you try that angle?

It is so worth it!!! If you read any game review (such as IGN) they only gave it around a 6/10, which I believe is way underrated. You need to be a Star Trek fan to appreciate the game. It also has great potential for the future to improve on some aspects also Season 3 is coming out in a week!!!

I bought the gold edition for $30 AUS and found the collectors for $50 so I got both.

Some things that need to be fixed:
- Collision detection
- Collision course with the ship does nothing, you simply bounce off it and no damage (same with asteroids, satellites, etc)
- The way the characters move is a little weird

Those are some things. The game is a little repetitive but it has a massive potential to grow and improve in the future. Overall it's worth the buy and if anyone wants to meet up and do a mission my username is Stefan2151. Im sure you can guess what happened in 2151 .
