I can't seem to work out how ranks (ensign, etc.) are assigned to forum users.  I thought it would be post counts, but I spotted a Lt (jr grade) with 4 posts, so it can't be that . . .

It's a Section 31 secret.

Let the bridges I burn light the way. You are special, just like everybody else. Calling an illegal alien an ‘undocumented immigrant’ is like calling a drug dealer an ‘unlicensed pharmacist’

Who is that LT JG with 4 posts. My theory is that the ranks are promotions that factor in the new sites post counts and don't take into account the old sites post counts. But I need to know who this LT JG with 4 posts is and roughly how many posts the current LT JG's have since the "upgrade".

I can't remember the name of the person, but they posted in this forum. Last time I saw them they had gone up to 10 posts.

Yeah it's strange. Frankly message boards are better off without rankings.

Who care really how the ranks here are calculated - they are targetted at younger trekkies anyway. Same applies to the post counts, I can't understand way there has been such a fuss over transfer of old post counts to here. The programmer here has bigger fish to fry to get this board licked into proper shape without being interrupted by members who want him to endlessly chase unimportant stuff like transferred post counts. Priorities people.
Or just reset everyone's post count....

I agree that there are more important things than calculating ranks, but it would be nice if I were something other than an ensign.
I am curious about this, and I do hope an answer is found. There are many high-ranking Starfleet officers out there who have just found themselves on the bottom of the ladder again.

I like to think of myself as pretty observant and based on my observations I don't think the ranks are based on post count (at least not post count alone). The number of threads started has more to do with it. Though I'm not sure it's as simple as create x threads get promoted, if it was there'd be a few more lieutenants about.
