That was Lt. José Tyler. He said: "...And you won't believe how fast we can get there—why, we've broken the time barrier...!"
Earlier in the episode, Captain Pike calls for the ship to accelerate to "Time-warp factor seven." Tyler helpfully raises his bandaged hands to indicate to mime the number.
Another example of different terminology: In The Cage, they use the term "Asteroid Beam" for what would later be the deflector dish. Also, Phasers are referred to as "Lasers."

The ship's weaponry was different, too. Tyler mentioned in the briefing room that the ship could "blast half a continent," while Scotty told the Eminians in ATOA that "the entire inhabited surface of your planet will be destroyed." Quite an upgrade! *laughs*

Quote: /view_profile/ @ | "The Cage" today would probably look similar to STXI, and would probably have had the outdoor scenes actually filmed outdoors. |
I'd like to see a Remake, wonder how they'll do the Telosians eh?

though Scotty was proberbly excaderating, if you can blast half a continent, then you can destroy the other half shortly after, and so on thus eventually destroy an entire inhabited surface of a planet, but what about the uninhabital areas jus to finish the job lol???

I think the color choices of the sets from the cage should have carried over to regular production of TOS. With all of the red's and yellow's all over the ship, it just doesn't look believable as a military ship.
I know some of you will say it wasn't strictly military, however starfleet was the military/exploratory agency of the UFP. I liked the uniforms and props of TOS better, the uniforms shows a clear definition of different ranks and divisions.

I like the styling of The Cage. It is what science-fiction should look like on the telly.

Susan Oliver sure looked good. How could Pike resist her?

I really liked the cage, i think in that format the show could certainly have grown & the characters develop, given a chance. I really liked number one. I have no idea what a test audience could possibly have disliked about her, i preferred her to nurse chappel. A strong woman, who is very professional, but not emotionless & cold. The hurt was clear on her face when pike expressed his apprehension at having to get used to working with women for the first time when talking about the yeoman, & then looked at her and said something like "ah you don't count" - OUCH!
I do think though that William Shatner brought a whimsical element, & i cannot imagine the show now without him, and his interaction with the other main characters.
I wonder if the Taelons from Earth-Final Conflict were in any way influenced by the talossians. THey are quite similar.

I like the Cage, especially the doctor's line "Doctors and bar tenders have the same 2 customers. The living and the dying."
I think the episode was ruined by the Menagerie. They should gave just aired the episode as is.

I like to think 'the menagerie' was Rodenberry's way of getting to put 'the cage' on telly regardless, alot of people never saw 'the cage'. Maybe he felt he wanted to give the story & the characters closure (excuse the Oprah-ism), seen as they never got to develop as part of the series. It was a bit long, in two parts though.

I feel the end of menagerie destroyed the ending of cage and the meaning of it.

I love that episode. It was a neat story and it was interesting to see how Star trek could be. There were also some good characters, like Number One and Yeoman Colt. And, of course, that Spock's prototype with fuzzy eyebrows and injured leg. It was not the Spock as we know him, but the great potential was there.

I liked happy Spock. The one character network execs REALLY hated and the only one to last.
