Yes! We do need another movie and another series. Sci-Fi is costly, so that could be a reason. If we had "Jim Cameron" as the director, it would be a 'hit' anyway. The last ST movie was ok. :)

No.

We might not like what we get next, but folks have been saying that since '79. It goes on in some form.

It may be in stasis, but it's not dead.

It's still alive- it's only a matter of time before a new series is made :logical:

It is tough to say Enterprise really hurt the series, but the mistakes that lead to Enterprise failure had already started during Voyager.

The franchise isn't dead the success of the new movie has proven that but it is heavily wounded.  We need something good, better writers, a new feel to match up with audience new taste.

Voyager was ok for the most part otherwise I agree with you. Don't exploit it.  :D

That's a good way of putting it. We're in the inbetween at the moment.

I grew UP with in-between. Ten years--seemed like much longer, of course, at my age--it seemed like forever. But Trek bridged the gap.

As long as SOMEONE is watching ST SOMEWHERE on Earth, ST will never die!!!

Star Trek will never die, but we must be patient. Star Trek 'died' between 1971 to 1978; then came 11 movies and 4 series over a space of 25 years! I think the Star Trek audience ratings only went down because there was ALOT of Star Trek and audiances (aside from us Trekkies) lost interest. Suffice to say I think Star Trek burnt out as a franchise in 2001 to 2005. But it's good there is this rest, it means a new series will be more popular and a new era for Star Trek will commence...

Personally, I don't see where else they can take the franchise. The reason why there was so much TREK before, was because other treks were finally possible, thanks to TNG. STAR TREK, as a series, had its shot. I think it's basically resigned to the movies now, unless the currect TREK movie actors start a new STAR TREK TV series, after the third movie. I just don't see how else another series could be made. Really ...

Absolutely not!!

When was the last time you could go to a toys r us and buy star trek toys. have you seen star trek on iTunes or other download format for sale or rent!?

Star Trek is just getting started. I believe the franchise is making a comback in a big way. The 2009 film kick started it in a new way with something that it need. Which was to modernize it.

Just give star trek a couple more years until the new movie comes out, it's gonna be as popular again as any other franchise!!

This i stuff. The success of the most recent Star Trek film has guaranteed that there will be a second Star Trek film (as most studios are wont to end a profitable franchise. Profitable franchises are called 'tentpoles', and I do believe that currently Star Trek is a very good tentpole.)

Yes, it takes a few years for movies to come out, but that's like saying the Bond franchise is dead. (Although technically, MGM is bankrupt and claims to be unwilling to sell it. Which of course is an excellent way to bring up its selling price.)
