I like the camaraderie in the first scene, with them being comfortable enough to play that joke on Archer. Also like this dialog... ARCHER: A farm? T'POL: It's remote and sparsely populated. If you're exposed, there's a reduced risk of cultural contamination. ARCHER: This must be why aliens are always landing in cornfields. So, who do we send first? Cool to discover that there was a quartermaster on the ship responsible for getting them the correct kind of clothing for their away missions. That would have been a really fun job, in my opinion, for anyone who like to travel and likes fashion! Another sweet moment in the development of Trip and T¿Pol... TUCKER: T'Pol. (gestures her to cover her ear tips with the long wig) (the pod lands outside the city at night) As a science teacher, I liked Riann¿s laboratory. Even recognized some of the instruments! and this was cool..... RIANN: (in Akaali, so Archer kisses her to shut her up while he adjusts the translator. It doesn't work first time so he kisses her again YAAA for ARCHER! RIANN: (putting bottle in case with others) Who'd believe me anyway? Where is your starship headed now? ARCHER: There are lots of inhabited planets to see, but I doubt many will be this memorable. (kisses her) RIANN: Is your translator broken again? ARCHER: I'm sorry? I don't understand a word you're saying. (kisses her again, with passion) YAAAA for ARCHER again!!! This is a seamless episode, with the flow of writing, acting and scene changes being very tight, entertaining, and interesting for the viewer. Well done, I gave it a 7.

Solid episode. I liked the "twist" where Archer was still considering T'Pol's advice for non-interference, then suddenly all THAT was complicated by the fact of ANOTHER species interfering with this Civilization--in a bad way! What would YOU do? Even if you had made the earlier decision not to interfere, wouldn't you still step in to kick that bad guy's ass? Or would you stand by and let it happen? A nice episode contrasting Human and Vulcan sensibilities, and answering the above dilemma in no uncertain terms. I liked Riann--very clever and responsible towards her community and way smart. RIANN: (points to the display) ...Here's the shop. This outline could have something to do with the energy field. Wait, what are you doing? ARCHER: If the blue line represents the dampening field, this blue button should control it. RIANN: What about the yellow dots? ARCHER: What about them? RIANN: How do we know they don't represent the field? Maybe it's the yellow button. ARCHER: The blue one's lit. RIANN: That's what worries me. ARCHER: We could debate this all day. Blue or yellow? RIANN: Blue. (Archer hits blue, the alarms go off, and she was right the first time.)We see that it's still early on, and Archer has a long way to go before he can pull off the kind of deceptions later in Precious Cargo and Stratagem: RIANN: That's the second lie you've told me. You're not very good at it.Even T'Pol has to learn the art of deception in a place as uncertain as space. But from the humans, she also learns when to trust well-meaning people, the way Archer trusts Riann, even though she's from the lesser-technologically advanced species he deals with in the episode. Tucker's a little more adept at identifying deception from others at the outset: ARCHER: If you enjoy the simple life so much, why do you have an antimatter reactor in your basement? GAROS: There's nothing nefarious about it, I assure you. The reactor powers a fabrication device. It allows me to make food and clothing. Says "he's lying" without a word.

Ok so here i go.
I gave Civilization a 9.
Now i loved the continuity bit involving the Malurian's from TOS: The Changeling and the use of the transporter as weapon (a first i think) as well as the comment regarding the non-non interference policy.
(We learn that Archer needs to work on his smooching a bit, maybe along with the prime directive starfleet also later includes a class on "duo directional lipus lockus" as kirk obviously got and A in it).
However in a less joking manner i suppose it was a bit of a dig at the TOS era and its attitude towards women being kinda sloppy after a few seconds of the kirk tongue tickling the tonsils.
Very entertaining over all and lots of referances to later eras that were not done to death.........overall i enjoyed it.

| Quote (Yanks @ June 20 2010, 4:18 pm) | Thought it was very funny when Archer asked her what she had made, only to get "its tea, would you like some"?
T'Pol's "enjoy your tea" comment was also pretty funny. I could just sense that T'Pol was thinking... "I have enough trouble keeping Trip out of trouble..." |
T'Pol was perfect in that scene, without being over-the-top: watching Archer and Riann banter, not having to say a word, but we knew what she was thinking! What was that great Screencap? paraphrased... Archer, thinking: Wow, this is awesome. From now on Starfleet Captains are going to be saying, "Wish I got as much action as Archer..."

A solid 8! I thoroughly enjoyed how this episode played out. Great character interactions, nice use of science to try to find the source of the ailments and Archer scores a kiss!!! BTW, that was EXACTLY how the screencap went, Grigori!

Nice G. That's sounds like whyaduck... |
I wish it was, 'cause it's a great caption. I don't remember who wrote that one. (BTW, I haven't been able to come up with a good caption in awhile. I guess writing boring stuff all day has given me a case of creative writer's block.)
