OK, so the Mazerite crew members are assimilated by the Borg and wreak havoc in Sickbay including attempting to assimilate Phlox. One of the security guards was tossed around and his rifle landed on Phlox's computer desk. As every one is now concerned whether or not Phlox will become a "whatever" and pose a threat, nobody collects the rifle that is 6 inches from Phlox's hands!!!! He just goes back to work at his computer with a rifle sitting right there!!! Just one of those goofs, I suppose!

They were SO obvious with the latitude they gave the infected Phlox, I figure it must have been on purpose.
It underscored how little they understood about the nature of the Borg threat. Treating it like some kind of infection, believing the Doctor would maintain mental control until he could warn others he couldn't...All mistakes someone would make who didn't know what WE knew about Borg.

I think the Borg had no place in Enterprise. The Ferengi maybe because Picard did say they know little about them. With all the date Archer and crew got on the Borg that by the time Picard and crew encountered them that Starfleet wouldn't be able to defeat them by them and be able to resist assimilation?

Well, we've sort of discussed this, but I maintain they didn't really get all that much data--and misunderstood what little they had...They blew up what hard evidence they had.
Others posit that the timeline post-Regeneration (as post-First Contact) subtly changed as a result. But not, of course, to the extent of being able to defeat the Borg this time 'round.

That's true with the timeline changed from First Contact and the new movie no telling how the the new 24th Century will go? Especially if the NX-01 now appears on the Enterprise E Enterprise ship wall?
