The last series ended back in 2005. Its been 5 years without Star Trek on TV. Do you think its time for a new Star Trek series? Should we wait 10 years?

A new series would be great, but In my opinion it doesn't get any better than the chemistry that the TNG cast had.
Will watch though!

I would like to see one based on a klingon ship or at least from a klingon perspective.

my thoughts exactlly.  although i think it would not appeal to a mass audience so it will never happen, but one can wish.

Oh i dunno i think a post dominion war series based on a fed warship (prometheus class maybe) captained and partly crewed by klingons along with humans and other races could have a lot of appeal.

No new Star Trek series please!

I'd rather wait at least another 5-7 years and make sure the franchise isn't over-saturated and watered down again.

What would appeal to the general public?

Pretend for a moment you weren't a Trek fan...what would make you want to watch that?

:logical:

I AM a Star Trek fan, and I wouldn't want to watch, so I'd humbly guess that most non-Trek fans would not be interested.

TV series that are about conflict are always more popular, DS9 was by far the best and most popular series of the modern era because it was more gritty that the others.

If a new Trek series is going to be able to face off against other sci-fi series it is going to require a perspective that includes aspects of starfleet as a true military as well as exploration organisation.

As i said DS9 was a fine example of this but they need to continue that trend and not fall back to pure "Trek idealism" because Trek is now one amoung very very many instead of a unique phenomenon.

The new time line also has the ability to portray starfleet as more of a type of police force as well as exploration entity in a less structured and more chaotic quadrant due to Vulcan being destroyed.

I am not saying that we should disgard Roddenberry's dream but a series showing the journey through chaos, moral dilemma and strife towards that goal instead of one where we have achieved it would be vastly more entertaining to everybody.

I wonder if they just plan on keeping Trek a movie franchise and don't care to do a new Trek TV series because that would be more expensive to do than a Trek movie.

Right now we have V and SGU and they are more about contemporary humans dealing with futuristic tech and advanced cultures.

I cannot think of a current series being developed and shown right now that is about the future of humanity in regards to the tech level and overall theme goes.

Maybe studios think that sticking contemporary humans into sci-fi situations helps the audience identify with the series more. While that maybe hard to argue with after the successes of SG1 and to a lesser degree atlantis i still think there is plenty of room for a series like Trek that is based in humanities future.

They have plenty of strong/weaker popular/unpopular material to guide them as far as plot themes are concerned so if a little thought is applied the potential for a awsome series is certainly available.

Yes, we need a new series. Or Voyager or DS9 movie.

Let's wait 3 more years. Mind you I have a plan of my own to start a new Star Trek series, plotwise it's finished. I've just got to wait 3 years, hash out a few things. Email it to the following after those 3 years:

CBS and Paramount studios
Rick Berman
and others...

Simply put there's a 99.99% that no one will notice the email, if someone notices there's a 99.9999% chance that I won't get an email back. There's a 99.99999999% that the email would say 'we like your ideas, let's discuss this series of yours some more' .Finally if that happens, then everything will snowball for me, and the genie is let out of the bottle...

But I'm being realistic here. The odds of that happening are like winning the lottery. Pretty, very, very small.
