| Quote | The house made famous in the 1979 film "The Amityville Horror" is up for sale in New York--ghosts not included.
The five-bedroom Dutch Colonial went on the market Monday for $1.15 million.
The Oscar-nominated film is based on the story of the Lutz family's brief stay in the house in 1975 after six members of the DeFeo family were shot and killed as they slept in the home. Eldest son Ronald DeFeo Jr. was convicted of the murders. | Click here to read the entire story at The Huffington Post. Poll question: If you had the money, would you buy the house featured in "The Amityville Horror?"

When dumb shit happens in a house it can make it cheap.
I'd jump on it... do a bit of remodeling if need be.. and be living the American Dream!!
 |
I heard it's selling for $1,150,000. So much for "cheap"!

That would be nice, but really they're doing what they ought to do because someone will pay it given it's fame.

for that much money you could buy a really great house with no ghosts or constant tourists gawking at your house.

Considering what happened there and WHERE IT'S LOCATED they ought to be selling that pile of shit for about $14,000 property included.
 |
It's in Suffolk County, Long Island, NY A little too close for my taste And why is it over $1million? Because it was famous? Still not worth it.

Someone will buy it and turn it into a museum or something stupid. Someone will be dumb enough to pay that money there always is.
I know someone who payed well over 1,000GBP for a replica double bladed lightsaber from ep. 1. There is always at least one sucker.

Nope. It looks creepy even without the whole spooky nonsense. I don't like the style of it. Much better houses available at a fraction of that price.

Chose to believe me or not but me and a few friends spent a weekend in that house.
I must have been about 12 years old.
We partied, drank and all kinds of shi+ till the cops showed up
Not saying the house isint haunted...but its not evil.

I'd buy it, but my fiancee wouldn't go anywhere near it. When we were house-hunting earlier this spring, one of the places we were considering was situated next to a cemetary, and even that gave her the heebie-jeebies.

No. Ugly house, wrong location, too expensive. The whole haunted thing was a put on, nobody else was bothered by ghosts or whatever it was supposed to be.

It's not an ugly house-they're just asking way too much because of the alleged history of the house
