Yes why not?

The JJA version of Trek has already proved it wants to go its own sweet way - so why not just add some more fuel to the fire?

WS as JTK's grandfather/great uncle/whatever is not a bad idea - handled well (brief cameo/s) it could add something - handled badly (an unnecesary overblown lengthy appearance) it could make the reboot more laughable than it already is ...

But why not give it a go? What is there to lose?

Actually, I think Shatner's inclusion in GEN was the only thing that distinguished it from being just another episode of TNG, and definitely not a good one at that.

I was watching Kathleen Turner last night (Californication Season 3) and thinking how much she looked like The Shat in drag ...

They've both become larger than life characters - reinventing themselves!

I think its a no brainer, its pretty much a crime to not have william shatner in a star trek movie with captain kirk in it, even if it is a young kirk! They could have made a way to feature him in the movie just like they did for Leonard Nimoy. Shatner = LEGEND!!!

As long as it wasn't cringeworthily unbelievable story wise, I would love to see another film with the Shat-meister in it

How about the new franchise?  If there's an alternative timeline then it is possible/likely Kirk did not die with Dr Sorian - so we could see an 'older' Kirk, being Chris Pine's Kirk in the alternate timeline since we don't know the fate of Kirk yet.

Totally possible.  I love seeing the 'old' cast in any movie or TV series as a cameo, it was great with Leonard Nimoy in the 2009 film so bring on William Shatner please!

Interesting...Shatner's very words at the Nashville Con were "I can't see my self playing Grandpa Kirk".  I never know how to take Bill....he's a poker face fiend....never know when he's bluffing or not.
