I gave up on this new franchise direction a long time ago.

The fact is the first movie made so much money it is very unlikely that they will try and make us in the 10 percent who hated the movie happy.

They have no reason too and it doesn't make good biz sense either to risk pissing off the 90 percent who did like it.

As Starbase keeps saying (and he's right) the Prime timeline is intact all we lost in it was Romulus and Spock Prime. Painful yes but livable.

It's nice to see you've finally entered the "Acceptance" stage of grief.

If you had been paying attention you would have noticed that I gave up on the franchise within a month or 3 after the movie came out and it made so much dam money.

It's not like this is a new thought that came to me yesturday :eyesroll:

Also there is nothing to restore. New timeline is working with the modern theory of multi-verse.

What about the Vulcans?  Now they're an endangered race.  Of the survivors, I hope some of the women can still have kids(don't know about the Vulcan child-bearing age limit)

Otherwise the Vulcans are screwed!

There were no timeline "changes" in the film....The only thing that occurred was that a new timeline was created alongside the old one.

They are only endangered in the new timeline....The old timeline is still intact.

I wholeheartily agree
new movie had good effects, good crew (although i dont like the captain much, but just my opinion) only problem was DESTROYING 20 years of canon.
in a side note, when did they delete all the old accounts?

Er..except for Vulcan.
Oh and Spocks mum.
Oh and the respectful, restrained relationship between Spock and Uhura.
..and Scotty as someone other than a comedy buffoon.
..oh and Romulans that looked nothing like..Romulans.
But yeh. Other than those details, nothing was destroyed.

No...nothing was...because those are all events/situations unique to the new timeline that don't exist in the prime timeline.

Maybe this will help, Somniac...

turns out i forgot i signed up here before i got a gmail!

anyways they dont technically destroy anything because they make a new timeline.  I think the only problem we have is that they just drift off on to a new timeline and dont fix it, like they do in most all other borked timelines.

That is the main difference. It is a new interpretation of what takes place when there is a time event. They do not consider to fix the time line because there is no real way to fix it and there is no one way the time line is meant to be. Like in Parallels we see that each universe has a reality which makes it unique. I encourage fans who do not prefer multiple time lines to consider why they seek a return to what is called the prime time line or why they do not accept the new universe.

I think you really take a risk anytime you start screwing around with the timeline.

If I, a lifetime fan and supporter of Star Trek, am to continue to view the movies, etc., here are my requirements:

(1) The timeline of ST must be restored in the 2nd Abrams and Crew movie. Undo the timeline changes of their first movie.

(2) The Humanist ethics must be restored. Dump the product placements, etc.

The new cast is awesome. The new effects and action are awesome. But there must be the underlying purpose and ethics of ST. Otherwise we just have an empty shell.

If this is not done, I will not pay anything to see the 2nd movie, and will boycott, and will strongly encourage others to boycott, this travesty on a great franchise.

You are not just making movies. You have been entrusted with a cultural legacy. Make it fun, make it exciting, make it profitable, but make it right.

This is not Lost and Fringe, which you have created from whole cloth. This is OUR Star Trek, and you must serve it well if you want it to succeed.

Thanks,

Rev. Steven Armstrong
San Francisco

I agree 100%

There's no screwing around with any timeline.

It's a whole new one, or at least partial new one.

Things are just happening different in this one than what happened in the prime timeline.

:logical:

They are screwing around with the timeline that the fans know though. That's the point isn't it? Otherwise there would be no argument which there obviously is.

I'm not so sure about whether they will make this some sort of 'Well, we told some exciting, interesting stories, so let's shut this baby down, say, ''This was fun'', away with ye..'' I know I would not be inclined to want to undo it all, if what we're talking about here is an eventual return to 'things as they were'. They've done some major things-yes, like destroying Vulcan, putting out an Enterprise crew together at an earlier time than in the PT, making a universe all its own, with its universe-specific twists, turns, and developments. To me, it doesn't make overmuch sesne-especially given that the PT is whole, and unaffected, to undo the tapestry that is the Abramstrek universe. It's not the original, it hurts not the first, and there are things here that could perhaps actually turn out BETTER, in the two quadrants, and beyond, that we may see some glimpse of in the subsequent films, like an earlier rapproachment with the Romulans(At this point, noone can say to me it COULDN'T HAPPEN)and certainly in imagining the AU after the films...I see nothing wrong in leaving it as it has been created, and let events play out 'as they are destined to'....Spock surely felt that there was a degree of 'Fate' involved. So far, all in all, discounting losing Amanda, and Vulcan...the future there could indeed be bright..and ''EXCITING!...''But, yes, in the next movie, the INTERNAL PRECEPTS of what made 'Trek classic' as I used to hear it called unique and beloved, need to be addressed-and I belive they will.

''If I were captain, i'd open every crack in the universe, and peek inside, just like Captain Janeway does''-Kes, ''The Cloud''
