Been watching The Pacific,it is very good,if americanocentric and doesn't acknowledge that other nations were involved in equally vicious and costly battles and campaigns in the Pacific Theatre.
Looking forward to Kokoda which is a 2 part docodrama of the climatic fight by the poorly equipped and massively outnumbered and outgunned Australian Militia to delay the Japanese Imperial Army long enough by engaging in fighting withdrawal along the Kokoda Trail to allow time for the already battle hardened and world famous 9th Div AIF to relieve them. The campaign was on a par with the Spartan campaign over 2500 years before (only some Militia survived) and marked a turning point in the Pacific War. Nor is it well known that Churchill refused to release the 9th Div from the North Africa campaign so since the then Australian Government ordered them back to Australia to help defend from an expected Japanese invasion, they were forced to return to Australia with no naval escort (Churchill refused to order a naval escort, the Australian Navy was then part of the Royal Navy).
It's a shame that very few people even in Australia know about the heroism of the Australian militia and the of the 9th Div AIF in the New Guinea campaign.
