Sisko's speech in "Emissary"

"That may be the most important thing to understand about Humans. It is the unknown that defines our existence. We are constantly searching, not just for answers to our questions, but for new questions. We are explorers. We explore our lives, day by day. And we explore the galaxy, trying to expand the boundaries of our knowledge. And that is why I am here. Not to conquer you with weapons or ideas, but to co-exist and learn."

Archer's speech in "Terra Prime"

"Up until about 100 years ago, there was one question that burned in every human, that made us study the stars and dream of traveling to them. Are we alone? Our generation is privileged to know the answer to that question. We are all explorers driven to know what's over the horizon, what's beyond our own shores. And yet the more I've experienced, the more I've learned that no matter how far we travel, or how fast we get there, the most profound discoveries are not necessarily beyond that next star. They're within us, woven into the threads that bind us, all of us, to each other. A final frontier begins in this hall. Let's explore it together."

Sisko's speech seems pretty bland compared to Archer's.

They both seem pretty bland. It's that "let's try for the grandiose" thing. I never feel much emotional attachment to such rhetoric, and it almost always comes across as contrived and a little boring.

Have you seen the one with Kirk where he finds a U.S. flag in ---
" I forget which episode " where he speaks about the U.S Constitution

I like Sisko's "I Shall Return" speech more than the "Emissary" speech.

The ramifications of this part of the speech are myriad. I could see all angles of Trek in it...

Actually as far as monologues go, the one I like best is Silarin Prin's speech in "Darkness and the Light" ~ it is different, well written, good use of metaphors, and quite chilling. And not just a lot of rhetorical poo.

Have you ever danced with a Tribble in the pale moonlight?
