Just because (a) I'm curious and (b) people generally dig this sort of thing...

What Trek series/films do you own on DVD?

For me, the Trek in question has to be GREAT in order for me to purchase a DVD set, which I fully intend to watch over and over again.

So I own the following Star Trek series on DVD:
- TOS - all three seasons (original format, not the remastered editions)
- DS9 - all seven seasons
- the Borg fan collective set

I also own the following Star Trek films on DVD:
- TMP
- TWOK
- TSFS
- TVH
- FC
- ST XI

And that's it.

Also, I should point out that even if I had the material wealth of Scrooge McDuck, I still wouldn't own any more than this. I am perfectly content with my Trek collection as is.

So here's the "why:"

I grew up with TOS (in syndication) and absolutely love the spirit and feel of those episodes, not to mention the creepy-cool vibe. And the Kirk/Spock/McCoy triangle is one of the best buddy combos in TV/film history.

DS9 is simply the most well-written, masterfully-produced Trek series of them all. It features the best plotlines, the best characterization, and the best special effects sequences. The subject matter is mature and thought-provoking. And unlike many other Trek series, it increases in quality as it goes along, much like an intensely rewarding rollercoaster ride.

The Borg episodes are sometimes great, sometimes not so great. But they are seminal works in Trek lore. And to not have Best of Both Worlds on DVD would be a crying shame.

For Star Trek, the First Four films are easily the best. TMP is just a brilliant and beautiful science fiction epic done in a two-hour timeframe. And the Genesis trilogy is just fantastic, exploring themes of age, loss, friendship, and conviction. First Contact and Star Trek XI are probably the two best "popcorn flicks" in the franchise, as they are both loads and loads of fun.

And there you have it, folks.

Who's up next?

They were so darn expensive and on television every day that I didn't buy for awhile. Here's what I have:

On DVD (Movies)
Star Trek (2009)

On DVD (Television)
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Complete Fourth Season

On VHS (Movies)
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (2nd copy--first one broke)
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek: Generations
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek: Insurrection

On VHS (Television)
Star Trek, "The Menagerie"
Star Trek,  "Day of the Dove"
Star Trek: The Next Generation Return to Grace Collection including: "Sins of the Father," "Reunion," and "Redemption I, II."
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, "Bloodoath"

I only have Star Trek 2009 and Enterprise seasons 1-4, but my son Jonathan Archer has all three Star Trek seasons and all six movies
The Motion Picture
The Wrath Of Khan
The Search For Spock
The Voyage Home
The Final Frontier
The Undiscovered Country.
I bought him season 1 and 2 of DS9 and season 3 of Voyayger (as he already has seasons 1 and 2) for his birthday and Christmas last year. He's asked for season 1 of Next Generation for his birthday this year.  :)
