I love doing this. I wonder how often my "middle choices" move around...? I'm sure they change depending on my mood.

1. Star Trek II- The Wrath of Khan
2. Star Trek III- The Search for Spock
3(t). Star Trek- The Motion Picture
3(t). Star Trek (2009)
4. Star Trek: First Contact
5. Star Trek V- The Final Frontier
6. Star Trek VI- The Undiscovered Country
7. Star Trek: Nemesis
8. Star Trek IV- The Voyage Home
9. Star Trek: Generations
10. Star Trek: Insurrection

But, truthfully...ALL Star Trek movies are entertaining and "good" in my view. I'd take "Insurrection" over 80% of other available choices probably!

I picked TVH. Even though I can at times enjoy Star Trek 2009 I don't think it will hold up for me like the others have. I just think TVH was really fun! I also think the Camping scenes in TFF were fun too, but as a whole movie TVH.

Wow, you're much more forgiving than me.

I simply cannot watch Generations, Insurrection, or Nemesis, as they are all terrible. And I am not much of a fan of Treks V or VI either.

Also, as a fan of film in general? Sheesh, I can think of TONS of movies that are better than all of the (great) Trek films put together. I mean, the Trek films are good fun and good sci-fi, but ... well, they're Trek films. C'mon.

Anyway, I voted for The Motion Picture.

I'm at a loss as to how this can astound you.

Fact 1: It is the newest of the 11 films, which means it's definitely going to get votes just because of the "freshness" of it.

Fact 2: It was the most critically acclaimed movie of all 11 films.

Fact 3: It was the highest-grossing film in the franchise

Fact 4: It has been very well-received in the home video market.

Fact 5: It won and/or was nominated for tons of awards this past year.

So, whether you or I think it is "bad" or "mediocre" doesn't reflect reality, which is that a LOT of people thought it was great. Don't mistake your own tastes for a majority opinion. Most people think this was a good movie. So, by definition, it's going to get votes.

Well, there's a reason I call myself a "Star Trek" fan.

It's pretty simple actually. It's becuase I really like Star Trek.

That doesn't seem too complicated, does it?

When I go to a Star Trek movie, I'm not looking for "Citizen Kane" or "No Country For Old Men." I'm looking for 2 hours of escapism. I have yet to find a Star Trek film that hasn't delivered on that, if for any reason because of my love for the characters and the universe they get to live in.

I'm not looking to see "oh no, Worf's forehead has too many ridges..." or "Checkov is wearing the wrong outfit in this movie." I'm not a nitpicker. I'm not a film snob. I don't give a $hit if, after careful analysis, the film's plot is somewhat rickety. If I can sit back and simply enjoy the experience, I am fine! I don't pride myself on being a typicaly dooshy Trekfan and picking things apart. In fact, I'm just the opposite. I'd rather simply turn my brain off and enjoy the characters and the fun for 2 hours and remember what it was like to be a kid and not be bothered or jaded by stupid crap that doesn't matter.

I feel bad for people that are "Trek fans" who seem to get more misery from the experience of being a fan than they get joy from it. If I cared about "realism" and "well-crafted dramatic plotting" I would probably HATE Star Trek. I certainly wouldn't waste my time on these message boards trying to point out why most of the Trek movies suck, I can assure you of that.

Hey, different strokes I guess.

The only movie that comes BORDERLINE close to the category of "completely useless" in the Trek franchise is Insurrection. For me, that is actually a pretty bad movie. It is saved because I love the characters and some of the fun...but if I put on my "objective" hat for a moment, that movie really is a stink bomb.

Look I watched "Star Trek 2009: The Flashy Frontier" again the other day as part of a Trek Marathon. Sure I enjoy it more than INS and NEM, but I did not see it as all that, "fun." In fact I may have thought it was more "fun" then it really was because I watched it after NEM. That movie is a downer... BUT!

#2? if a movie has to be critically acclaimed to be fun then I am in trouble. I love some of the most panned by critics movies made as fun movies.

#3? Money does not equal fun, I have seen some very unfun money makers.

#4? So has some other unfun movies.

What I mean is that there is nothing wrong with it being any ones most "fun" movies, but those reasons, other then #1, do not equal a indicator for fun.

That said, I love TWOK and I don't find it very fun at all. TMP is the very opposite of fun, but it tells a great science fiction story. Parts of VI are fun. But TVH is just pure TOS type fun! Depite my lack of love for Generations, parts of that were fun too. Like Kirk and Picard on horses!

ThankYouGeneR

StarTrekXI is mine. I love TheMotionPicture, really really like TheWrathOfKhan, really like Nemisis, like some of the others a lot, a couple others I treasure only because they are StarTrek but I don't watch them anymore, unless I'm with another Trek enthusiast and 'they' want to watch one of them. It's always enjoyable for me to watch ST with other people, even the movies or episodes I like the least. STXI is now my favorite because I just like everything about it and I watch it a lot; only me, with family, or with other people who call to say: "We're watching StarTrek [XI] again. You want to come over?"
