He was given a field commission in Best of Both Worlds to command Enterprise, though that expired at the end of the episode. He was made captain of Hathaway in Peak Performance and was finally given a permenant promotion in Nemesis to command Titan.

You forgot a few. He was Captain of the Klingon ship the Pagh in 2365. During the Klingon Civil War of 2368, Riker was placed in temporary command of the USS Excalibur. |

Actually he was first officer on the Pagh. It was part of the officer exchange program. |
And while serving as First officer, he removed the Captain for acting against the best interest of the ship and took command. Quote from the Dialog. "Enterprise....this is Captain William Riker of the Klingon vessel Pagh.I order you to lower your shields and surrender" |

Same as with your "Peak Performance" example. While in command of the Hathaway his rank was still that of commander. |

While that is true, any officer in command of a ship is entitled to be addressed as "Captain". |
