my design would be to make the ship more better constructed with thicker bulkheads and tougher weapons.

May star trek live on forever, amen!

I'd use an existing design from Ufo lore...the "cigar-shaped" mothership. I'd keep the blunt shape of Enterprise's secondary hull. I'd apply this shape to the fore & aft ends. I'd let these ends be the "stardrive" engines. I'd make it abour 2500 ft long & 400 ft in diameter, slightly tapered towards the front & rear. I'd make the front taper about 1300 or 1400 ft long (to keep the phi ratio for proper proportion). This ship would carry dozens of saucer-shaped, and triangle-shaped planetary exploration ships (i'd really lean on the occurring shapes in UFO lore). the ship would carry a large detacthment for "away teams"( many hundreds of personnel).

I read one book that allegedly was about real UFOs, and they were circular. Their power flowed around in that same (basic) circle, which enabled them to find any problem quickly--for example, if power was not flowing past a certain point, then that is where the problem was. (You know what I mean.) A circular design could move quickly in almost any direction, too! However, if I were designing a starship, I would prefer the pyramidal shape, as in Stargate. The top part of the pyramid could be the command section, like a Starfleet ship's saucer, and could detach, if desired. I would put several decks in either the middle or at the bottom for fighter hangars.

Also, like a circular ship, a pyramidal ship could move quickly in one of several directions.  Seen from a distance, it might be difficult for an observer (or enemy) to tell where the Main Bridge was and in which direction it was travelling.

I don't think a cube is very maneuverable. However, a cube in the center, with a pyramid on top and a pyramid on the bottom (with their apexes pointing away from the cube) would be pretty cool.

This shape is called an elongated square dipyramid, often seen with zirconium crystals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elongated_square_bipyramid and

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/ElongatedSquareDipyramid.html).

I think I would prefer to turn this ship horizontally, though, rather than vertically.

This kind of question is fun to kick around for awhile. The Command/Control center on my "cigar-shaped" mothership would be deep inside it (no "bridge" per se). Also, the C&C staff could set up an emergency C&C center at many "plug-in" locations with laptop-type "C&C" devices (in the case of ship damage). I've got a couple UFO photo books. One of the photos shows a cigar-shaped ship launching the saucers from downward deploying tube, that then apparently retracts. The "Adamsky" cigar-shaped ships also looked really cool (and realistic).

You know, I would want a space ship that's not overly large, but with high maneuverability. I don't know if any of you guys ever saw Babylon 5, but I liked the idea of the White Star Ship, and the White Star Destroyer. The only thing I'd change is maybe the idea of three long prongs on the destroyer. It kinda resembles a Vorlon Ship that's been scrunched. And get rid of that chicken look. The White Star honestly looks like a plucked chicken!

The only design flaw i can comment on as far as Enterprise E... Secondary shielding. if they would've had that. The Scimitar would have paid dearly. oh, more photon torpedos. they ran out too soon. Other than that...she is perfect.

One damn minute, Admiral.

Counselor Cambridge, in Kirsten Beyer's "Project Full Circle" books, says the first thing he always looked for on a new starship assignment was where the escape pods were! He had survived several battles that way!

The heads would be a close second, though!  And, I never met a replicator I didn't like, as you can see!
