The Right To Choose

Should we, as Americans, have the right to choose our own health care providers and health insurance without having to pay extra taxes?

The United States was founded on freedom. Freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of choice.

Does this right to choose not extend to our health care as well?

So you don't think the right to choose should extend to health care?

This is about opinions, not "well the majority voted it in".

socialized medical insurance only works if everyone takes part.  If it were a choice you would have nothing but people who "real" insurance companies rejected.  That would only encourage insurance providers to reject anyone who was sick.

the real question is is socialize medicine even possible in the United States?  I don't think it is.  For a very obvious reason I never hear and pundits talking about.

The point of the poll is that the US of A was founded on certain rights, including the right to choose. :p

I'm sure socialized medicine works great in other countries. But it isn't right for the US. That's just my opinion though.

The Government already says you must contribute a percentage of your income to society. I don't see the difference. There are MANY things the government mandates. Don't act like you're losing freedom. I love how people are crying about the "government forcing me to be healthy."

The Government needs to butt out of alot of things and leave it to the people to take care of themselves. ¿This is not a socialist country, we do not need to be taken care of like babies...

And you are obviously one of those "I don't believe in fighting" people....

It starts with small things like a "minor" addition to your taxes.

So, in all your "infinite wisdom"...when should we be worried about our rights being taken? When they're all gone?

I think it would have been right.  I just don't think it's possible.  Other countries began socialized medicine in the 30's when medicine was a doctor with a stethescope for the most part.  The medical field has grown beyond the point where the goverment can now take over it.

Didn't we spend an entire generation arguing whether or not the government has any right to interfere with choices that we make with our own bodies?

:p

You are entitled to that opinion. :)

And you do have a good point there. A very good one.

Hmmm, wonder if the majority in 10-F thinks someone is an idiot would PC7 be okay with that?  Even if sometime it might be himself that would be in the minority?

Not that I'm calling PC7 an idiot, just including him in the example since he has said:

So in the case of my above example this then fits.
