Just curious - what was the very first Star Trek book you ever read?
Mine was "Strangers From the Sky"

The Klingon Gambit. Hey, the D-7 caught my eye. Unfortunately, the only event I remember from that book was when Kirk set his phaser to overload and threw it like a grenade. Ha. This from a 13 year-old (at the time) with a TON of G.I.Joes...

"Vulcan Academy Murders"
As a kid, I was a big Star Wars fan. (I often joke with my friends who are Star Wars fans that I was a fan until I grew up.) After reading through all three novelizations of the movies they had at my local library, I was out of Star Wars books to read. I decided to read this book, only really knowing Star Trek from seeing a couple of the movies. It hooked me on Star Trek and then I went and started watching the shows on TV and reading all the Trek books I can. Since I read a bunch of Trek books before I had seen much of the show, I often say that my version of the characters in my head never quite matched up to the show. (Though, I did up loving the show as well.)
I recently re-read this book for the first time since that original read. It was amazing how much I caught that I did not the first time (not having seen much of the show, I did not catch a lot of references). The book was an even better read the second time through.

Dreadnaught and then the sequel Battlestations. I actually read them again a few months back (still a good read). I recommend them both.

It was either the last of the Shatnerverse books or one of the captains table books.
