It's not stealing, because you didn't pay for it and therefore it wasn't yours but still belongs to the supermarket. Bloody annoying and inconvenient though.

I'm surprised you let him get away with that.

The manager should advise the bum that if he doesn't return the item to your cart, that he will not be welcome to shop there anymore. Resolving customer issues (including issues between customers on his premises) is well within the store manager's jurisdiction and that's how I would've handled it.

Yeah!
The Cashier could always politely ask the person to return the good(s) or else they will not be served at the checkout, in which case if not resolved to call for the manager or supervisor.

Then, you offer the person something else from your cart.

Like a can of soup, or some canned vegetables.

Thrown, of course.

"Hey, ya like chicken noodle? HAVE SOME!" THUD

It's not technically theft, but the guy's a douche nonetheless.

But I guarantee you the person losing items would be like, "Hey mother####er, why you stealin' shit out my cart?!?!"

Even though it's NOT stealing.. some people would say it is for lack of a better term.

Well, yes. I'd say something along the lines of "Hey, don't steal my shit!"

Trust me, I'd never let anyone get away with any asshatery or otherwise douchebaggery.

Not yours until you pay for it. Is that person a douchbag, yes.

Once you leave the store it's yours. Until then you are just moving around the inventory for the store.

Yeah, what he said. Guy's a jerk, but not a thief.

It's funny how some people get really possessive of stuff they haven't actually purchased yet.
I was in the grocery store once and I accidentally put something in another person's cart and started pushing it away and the chick who was using the cart started screaming for the F'ing POLICE! I was mortified....It was an honest mistake and it wasn't like she had her purse or kid in the cart or anything like that.

This has never happened to me.

I just saw a TV commercial where this broad falls in love with some dish soap or laundry soap this other broad is buying. They are at the checkout and have their shit sitting ont he conveyer belt with the little stick dividing their goods for purchase.

Anyways, the broad up front picks up and moves the stick just behind the other broads soap, thusly hijacking it.

So I cam here and made this.

Oh, lol
