A new Trek fan series will premiere it's pilot episode in May. It looks pretty good from the Vignettes I have seen. I can't wait to see a Trek series tackle the events into the 25th century. We haven't really seen anything past the 1st decade in the 25th century. The video production appears to be better than Hidden Frontier and a step below Phase 2. But the acting from what I have seen looks like it will rival Phase 2. I think this fan series is gonna be the hottest out of the gate than any other Trek fan series.

thanks for this information, but I will tell you one thing. After spending about an hour at their web site, studying how this new concept works, which I'm impressed with, the one question, or questions haunt me. Do these guy's have permission from C.B.S. and or Paramount Studio's to do this sort of thing? For I searched everywhere and could not find a lick of information from either C.B.S. and or Paramount that supports that they do. Also are these people aware of something called "trademark infringement" or "copyright" or "patent" or "patent pending"? I don't know, sounds like this might be something cool, but man, if they didn't get permission for anything they are about ready to do, it would sure suck to be them!

Worthy of future study and research.......

Actually I think the legal line was drawn years ago when Hidden Frontier came along followed by Phase 2 and the slew of other video based fan fiction Trek series came along. I think the catch is they are not allowed to make any profit from these ventures. Now as far as how that is monitored by cbs I don't exactly know. But there are at least 10 video fan fiction series already out there.

Check out http://www.hiddenfrontier.com/ and http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/ I am fairly sure Star Trek Phoenix is along the same lines as these others but it looks to be better than all of the others so far. But of course we have yet to see a full episode.

Since we have to wait years for the next movie and quite a few more years for another tv series I welcome these fan created series to wet my appetite.

Star Trek Dark Armade isn't that bad visually but lacks storytelling and the acting is sub par a bit. http://www.darkarmada.nl/

They are tackling a series set in 2389 though which is a time period unexplored so far. I would just love to see if Romulus has been destroyed in their series since they started it before Trek 09 came out. So far the only episodes they have were a screen testing pilot which looks more like a joke than anything. And a 3 part episode.

These fan series are always too much for me. The acting is terrible, the dialog doesn't flow, and the cast is ugly.

These fan series are always too much for me. The acting is terrible, the dialog doesn't flow, and the cast is ugly.

In the beginning Hidden Frontier's actors were a mess. I remember one episode of Voyages of the Angeles (which was the predecessor to Hidden Frontier) there was a doctor who was clearly a beaner and I could not understand what he was saying. He was supposed to be the chief medical officer but I missed an important point because I couldn't understand him. But the acting has really stepped up quite a bit into Helana and Odyssey.

As far as dialogue and storytelling you have to realize that nobody on these shows are getting paid and all are either just Trek fans living a dream or up and coming actors in general trying to break into the business by doing some pro bono like work.

I am also glad Rob Caves finally calmed the gay thing down a bit. It got a little out of hand in season 6 and 7 of hidden frontier. Ro Nevin was even making a comment to Matt Maccabe about Klingons being just like us except they are ridged down there. I wanted to throw up when I heard that on a Trek show but they have toned it down. I think Cawley got the gay thing right in Phase 2's Blood And Fire. It wasn't this overzealous gay guy coming at you thing but instead kept it subtle and didn't try to overshadow the main theme with the gay theme in that episode.

As far as ugly goes again you are dealing with not getting paid. I would love to see you in a fan film though and see where you hold up. I for one would never make it as more than an extra with an unspoken role on a show like that and I realize that. I might make a good made up Cardassian though.

I'll add one more point to your list as well. The make up in early Hidden Frontier was horrific. The used freakin Halloween masks for a few Cardassian's and a Sona if I recall. Check it out. I completely laughed my ass off when I saw that.

well, good luck with this.   i always thought fan film was restricted to existing designs and established sets, but certainly nobody can do this for profit.

I STILL WANT THE FINAL ACT OF "STARSHIP EXETER: THE TRESSAURIAN INTERSECTION" AND I WANT IT NOW.

A little update they have a trailer up for the first episode on the main page. There is a bald tattooed Romulan in the trailer as well. I would guess they are following the prime timeline where Romulus is destroyed. Just a hunch!  I can't wait for this series   :p This one is gonna be the biggest fan series to watch. I wouldn't be surprised if it overtook Phase 2 in downloads next year.

Agreed.  It looks good, but the proof will be in the substance, not the surface.  It looks like it's at least worth a watch, though.

Seems worth a look. But why does the ASIAN character have to be interested in martial arts? Stereotype much?  :D

This series has by far replaced Hidden Frontier as my favorite fan creation.

I watched this pilot thinking that it was originally going to be terrible and that the acting wasn't going to be anything special. However, once the end of the episode hit and the 'To Be Continued' line came across the screen made me want more of what I had just been given. As a fan, I am in the camp who thought that what JJ did with Star Trek 11 was amazing and it was something right to do to bring new life into a franchise that was showing signs of the time. Nemesis had bombed at the box office, Enterprise had just finished and then in 2006 we get the news that Trek 11 is going to come out in Christmas of 2008 and we're all thinking that if it's not good that Star Trek is done forever. May 7th, 2009 came around and I sat in an IMAX and watched the story unfold. The end was wonderful, I had already read Countdown so I knew what happened. Trek 11 breathed new life into this franchise in film.

I think that this show's concept could be transferred to television perfectly. The pilot is ahead of it's time in my opinion and for people to say that the acting is terrible is ridiculous. Watch it for the story, you have nothing to come this fan film to because nothing is set in the same timeline as it is. Trust me if you go in with an open mind, you will come out of this thinking that it could be the next Trek series.

I can find nothing about the pilot of Phoenix that fits the bill of "silly". Please enlighten me on this idea.

it's just so bland and pointless. and the less you care about the stories, the more you notice the silly little imperfections in the filming. on a web series where i'm too busy thinking about the story that sort of thing isn't noticable.

i applaud your effort but i just don't see this as being all that good. to each her own, i guess.
