Belief in a single god; does it make sense?

Obviously, given the poll choices, if you're an atheist you should choose the third option.

So, belief in a single god... does it make sense to you? And please, tell us why or why not. Even if it's only because that's what you were raised to believe, be honest and say so.

I chose "No (theist)." The reason is because I look at various aspects of existence and I see duality. Day and night, masculine and feminine, life and death, there is balance in everything. The idea of a single god throws the balance off.

I choose "Yes".

It makes about as much sense as anything else does.

One god, lots of gods, groups of gods, no god, the Great Green Arkleseizure.

When you can't prove or disprove anything is true, claiming you hold all the answers is kinda dumb.

There are many Gods and there is evidence of that based on the "man-made" system; a Ceo is head of the company and there are many other managers so it stands to reason that it works in a simialr way but without corruption.

There is only one "creator" however, and he rules over any kind of God. The Universe has an order to it; God of the bible has an order and yes it makes sense.

Yes it makes sense. Everything must have had a beginning, and that beginning is God. Now someone may ask who created God? The Almighty does not need a creator, that's why He's the Almighty. :logical:

As an atheist I have to say no, not in the modern world.

Granted, at one stage people invented gods to explain what we did not understand.  How else could early man explain lightning or eclipses or such things that defied their explanations. So, in a way, religion did make sense.

But we've moved on from the times we need to believe in deities, as most of us have moved on from the need to believe in fairies.

In my opinion God simply isn't a logical concept.

In the case of a tie, ask which explanation requires the fewest pre-existing conditions. The least complex explanation is the odds-on favorite to be the correct explanation.

Yes, raised in church, listening to God's word with an open mind and heart, I've made my decision, and I'm sticking to it. Science Fiction is a vehical for the Imagination to explore technical inovation, and create new cool stuff. The fact that we create means we're chip off the Ol'Block.... :)

Well, really it shows how limited our minds are that something needs to be created. The only things that are created is our universe and everything in it. Outside of our universe, those rules simply dont apply.

It doesn't make sense to me that there would be only one all knowing god. There is a balance to everything...therefore there must be a balance in heaven as well. To me, that means that the "Almighty" must actually be two people: a god and a goddess.
