So I'm just saying hello, because I may be more incllined to drop in here now. I grew up watching Next Gen as a kid, so it holds a very special place in my heart.

It started with a bang in Encounter at Farpoint, but, to be honest, it went downhill pretty quickly with The Naked Now. I never liked that episode, but I suppose it's good to get it out of the way pretty quickly then!

I'm up as far as Datalore (great episode that), and I'm loving it.

So I just decided to introduce myself so no regular on this board would be asking "Who's this crackpot?"...

Greetings sb!

I just watched Home Soil, and it oozes of The Devil in the Dark. But even at this stage, you can see the potential for greatness.

And I can see why Denise Crosby jumped ship so soon. She doesn't really get to do much, which is a shame. Her background is ripe for development. She's a tough character. And why wouldn't she? You don't get that many TV characters who spent their formative years trying to avoid rape gangs. It's a shame Tasha was killed off. What would she have been like if she stayed around for the seven years?

Hope you enjoy TNG the next time around, SoS!

I like to think that her character would have continued to evolve as well as the other's did.

I couldn't swear to it, but I think Denise Crosby may have be disappointed with how little Tasha got to do...

I actually started to re-watch the episodes as well! I couldn't really watch the first half of Season 1, because they were so corny.

But catching some episodes fo Season 3 and beyond, I was struck by how much STNG makes you think hard about some topics such as respecting cultures, Torture, human/mankind's propensity for war etc.

I have to say I laughed so hard on the episode of "Rascals" I think it was Season 5 or 6, where Captain Picard, Guinan, Ro, and Keiko were turned into pre-teens.

Season One is a right of passage, lol. There are moments of brilliance even in the silliest of episodes or great character development. And yes a lot of it was a straight rip on TOS from the sets, dialog, plots, music, etc.

Season Two gets better and by Season 3 they are really in the swing of things (save a few episodes).

Bad pajama uniforms, baby butt face Riker, red-shirt Geordi, over the top acting....I'm sure I could think up some more, but this should about cover it.

^ Ah!

The first half of S2 was a hard old slog. By the start of S3, everything suddenly clicks into place.
