I feel so fortunate that the new movie did not offend me in any way. It was only thrilling for me. The bad guy was (movie) scary to me and suited me fine. The new timeline is one of my favorite things because I will never be wanting to compare the new and future characters with my beloved TOS. I get to start all over again!

nuUhura is so appealing to me in all ways I consider important for her character. nuChekov is so unique and I am so comfortable with this new turn of the character. I find myself smiling every time nuSulu is there. I like the new characterization. Really like him. nuScotty is a twist I would not have thought of AND I find such enjoyment in this turn of events. I want more.

The triumverate is, happily for me, not yet strongly developed as such, and has me hungry for the next installment. I am so fortunate that I am so very satisfied with the recasting of 'my guys'. The new versions have enough of what I needed from the old version that allows me to accept them, and are different enough to permit me to view this whole new thing with the happy anticipation of a new adventure.

So, what do I notice about people who don't like STXI? I notice that they are much less content right now than I with the current state of evolvment of StarTrek. I feel fortunate.

It's unfortunate that there aren't more fans with your attitude on this message board.

I feel the same way.

Was Trek XI perfect? NO! Was it exactly what I wanted or hoped for? NO! Does that make it "terrible Trek" or "a stupid popcorn movie?" ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I have loved Star Trek since longer back than I can remember in my life...but I will never take a movie or series so seriously that I cannot allow myself to enjoy it for what it is.

Trek XI was a fun, charming, witty adventure with great characters and special effects. It is everything that I enjoyed the Original Series for.

I'm happy that something I love and cherish so much has succeeded in reaching a greater number of people and a wider audience. I hope that it inspires people the same way that Trek inspired me when I first started getting into it. Most people who are constantly complaining are unable to deal with their disappointment to not getting what they personally wanted or envisioned, and their reactions are selfish and over-the-top.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. There's so much bitterness coming from so few people. It's a shame, but it's nothing new to "hardcore" fans of certain genres.

Just some food for thought for the people who think that they know what is "right" for trek, but i noticed that the people who dont like the movie come in 2 different flavors.

1: J.J. Abrams has no creativity. His redoing of something shows a lack of talent/creativity and is proof that his handling of the franchise is a bad idea.

2: J.J. Abrams has changed trek so much that events like the whale probe or dealings with Khan will have changed and/or never happen and is proof that the direction of trek is wrong.

These are 2 completely opposite reactions to the film and they both cant be right. I'm just posting this to prove once and for all that a movie being good or bad is totally subjective because the people who don't like the movie cant even agree why they dislike it.

It all boils down to some people can't stand when things change in ways they don't like. Fact of the matter is, the movie was a success on numerous levels and proclaiming that you will not "kiss ass/ join the bandwagon/ blah blah blah" doesn't change anything.

Trying to prove a movie is bad to a bunch of people who actually liked and enjoyed it is a lot like putting a band aid on a dead body. You can do it, but what good are you doing?

Personally, I didn't like the movie because I want to see the continuation of the storyline already created. I want to see the end of the 24th century and dawn of the 25th century - with some occasional appearances from characters from TNG/DS9/VOY.

It wouldn't have mattered how close to canon the last movie was - Kirk's history, let's move forward.

But, I know, many people may not have the same desire that I have.

If, in fact, most people want this new movie stuff, the rules of capitalism dictate this will be the new direction of star trek. I must sit back and hope that in my lifetime we will see our nation abandon capitalism, a government takeover of the movie industry, and a new dictator force my kind of star trek to be made. But, alas...I dream.

There was an indication that preexisting Trek fans saw STXI in a theatre as many as 20 times!
Whoa! Now I wish I had their $$$$$. I would have I promise you. Not day after day, of course, but staggering out viewings in theater I definitely would have if I could have. Oh yes, baby. I sure would have.

There are many who saw STXI 5 to 10 times in a theatre..
Me! I saw it five times in the theater!

Ohhhh, and I, yesterday watched the dvd for the obscene numbered time. Maybe in the mid teens.

I was doing something completely unrelated and the music popped into my head. It kept rolling around until I felt driven to put in the dvd and settle in for another viewing.

I've only bought two of the single dvds so far, one for me and one as a gift, but it is in my agenda to buy more. You know, the two dvd versions. HD versions later. BlueRay even later.

I'm one of "those" people. lol And StarTrek isn't even my "life". Granted it is a 'love of my life', but I have more than just life in StarTrek.

And I love the tooooooooooyyyyyyssss!

I found the STXI to be somewhat of a good action movie. But I don't consider it much as a Star Trek movie....a little different then the Star Trek universe that I fell in love with.

Fair enough! That makes perfect sense.

I thought this Trek was the worst of the whole bunch.

The film being a prequel was a strike against it to begin with. We pretty much knew the plot going into the movie and there wasn't anything surprising revealed in the movie. Nice special effects and the Enterprise looked cool, but that was the extent of the surprises.

Nero just didn't do anything for me, he didn't grab me like Khan or The Borg Queen did. ¿I found him to be cardboard and un-interesting, definately not up to Star Trek standards. I know people said this movie was about Kirk and Spock but they still could have made Nero more compelling.
...........

This movie wasn't about OUR Spock and Kirk, it was about alternate versions of Kirk and Spock. ¿I just wasn't feeling the chemistry from Pine, Quinto, and Urban the way I did with Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelly. ¿It was kind of like watching an Elvis impersonator, not bad but no where even close to the original.

I think this might have been a better movie had they come up with an orginal crew.

I like this review a lot too. Another completely different take from mine! (and you didn't beat me over the head for liking it) And what you want is commmmpleeeetly understandable to me.

I think a lot of people don't like the movie because its not the kind of new Star Trek they want - not because JJ Abrams directed it. I think quite a few people didn't want a TOS movie, and were disappointed they didn't get a TNG, DS9, VOY or totally new character Star Trek movie.

Even some of those who didn't mind a TOS movie, may have not liked the way the characters were reinterpreted, the story, the special effects, or the new 'Enterprise'.

Does it matter why they didn't like it? You're never going to convince them by logic or otherwise its a good movie.

I agree! I liked it. You didn't like it. What IS the big deal? I'm actually INTERESTED in why the people who didn't like it... didn't like it. Until the 'why' includes an inalienable true knowledge of what is right and wrong in the universe of StarTrek of course. Or, character assassination of 'the wrong' people and/or the people who actually went out and made a movie. Then I stop listening anyway.

Yes I know what you mean ThankYouGeneR. I like to hear the reasons why someone likes it or not. Even when I saw it the 1st time I had some initial disappointment but I think there was a reason for that. I was anticipating for so long and I also viewed many spoilers and I had some unanswered questions in the story. It was then I could relate to some negative reviews and I liked to read them. Then I looked further into these questions and with more viewings I saw they were answered in the story. There were other people here who had the same questions and we discussed them in threads. Some people may still have disappointments but I consider this a good Star Trek movie and I appreciate their accomplishment.

The reason, I don't like it as much as when I first saw it is that it just doesn't have the replay value as some of the other TREK movies.

Admittedly there are some mistakes that bug me to death, yet the lack of replay value for me personally just doesn't help things any.

Like this review. Yes sir-ree. There are several of the earlier movies that don't have replay value for me and that makes the described reasons for your STXI assessment clear as a bell to me, including the mistakes that bug you to death! If needed, I could talk all day about episodes or movies that have things that just make me grind my teeth. Can't see anyone needing to watch or wax rapsodically about STXI if it bugs or bores them!
