| Quote (theultimateguinan @ Feb. 20 2010, 11:26 am) | It's obvious to everyone that they have had the DS9 and Voy movies on hold but how many JJ films will we have to endure before we see the amazing 1st DS9 film?
Will they have seperate DS9 and Voy franchises or blend them?
Will TNG characters be included such as Picardo, Riker, Troi and La Fledge? |
"La Fledge". There's nowhere else really to go with VOY and DS9. As for Enterprise, well, it didn't get very high ratings, which is a shame. There was so much more they could do with that show. But who knows? Maybe they'll surprise us. Like that's gonna happen.

Wait a minute! | Quote (rocketscientist @ Feb.20 2010, 12:00) | | VOY and DS9 movies are not "on hold" at all. ?There was never ever any development on them and there are no indications at all that there ever will be. |

You can't put a phone call on hold that was never made to begin with.

The most you could ever hope for would be a TV or direct to DVD/Blue ray movie and at this point that is NOT going to happen...

I would accept another TNG era film trilogy straight to DVD.

The answer to this is obvious. Voyager ended in 2001, DS9 ended in 1999. Basically you only get a few years to make a movie from a series before people forget about it. I have no doubt that I would see both movies, and many Trek fans would as well. But in order for a movie like that to work, it would have to do some serious marketing in order to get people to the theatres, or else only Trek fans would see it. The newest movie worked because JJ and the producers were able to get Trek to appeal to those who had never watched a Trek series in their lives. Without the ability to grab a new audience, a movie franchise will not be successful.
The best example I can give you is The X-files. The show ended in 2000, they tried to make an X-files movie last year, it sucked in the box office because people didn't remember the show, too much time had passed.

X Files film was a profitable movie. It only made $70 million in USA -but only cost $25 million to make.

doesn't matter how much a movie takes to make, if a movie falls below 100,000,000 in box office it officially sucks unless we are talking 30 years ago.

Your example fails because the X-files film your talking about is a "SEQUAL". The first X-files film came out in 1998.

It wasn't a sequal it was a stand alone. Also the X-files movie in 98 was well made and received because it was a continuation of the show.
The one made last year was a stand alone, had no real ties to the events following the series other than a few placed lines. The argument holds true because the movie failed in the box office because too much time passed, and it didn't attract new viewers.

It was the 2nd X-file film. It was a squeal. Wether or not the story arc had any connection is irrelevant. It wasnt a reboot. | Quote | | The one made last year was a stand alone, had no real ties to the events following the series other than a few placed lines. The arghument fails because the last film was indeed a squeal. Its stared some of the same characters and was in continuity with the series. As I said above it wasnt a reboot.
