I am not nitpicking the movie but I was just curious why did Nero wait 25 years in the Klingon prison planet to go after Spock? How did Nero know Spock would arrive in 2258?

He didnt "wait" in the Klingon prison, it just took him that long to work out a good plan of excape.

As for figering out when Spock Prime would arrive.......they mentioned something about "calculations".

So I'm guessing one of his men was really smart with temporal mechanics.

Those are good explainations. One thing I was confused on about using the Red Matter to created Black Holes would they be able to program the Red Matter to specific Stardates? Or did the Red Matter make Stardates on its own?

Keep in mind , it wasnt the red matter that caused the time travel event on its own.

The red matter was used to absorb the energies of the Hobis star that went nova.

And the nature of the Nova was already a special case.

What happened was a result of the expanding energies of the Nova and the energies of the artificial singularity.

These energies combined to rip a hole in the space time continuum.

The comic book mini-series "Star Trek:Nero" answers that question.

Ummm... Yup...

I've been telling folks for months that nothing can travel through a black hole. I'm talking about intact matter. Even though black holes have never been proven to exist, if they do, there are specific realities which go along with those theoretical objects. I find it amazing how many Trek fans still confuse black holes with wormholes.

It's historical in Trek science the way the slingshot effect has been used for the time travel element. Because of the special situation of both the Hovus nova and the Red Matter, there was such power (energy) that the resultant effect was both time travel and possibly the jump to another parallel universe. There are fringe theories within the theory of quantum mechanics that predict even the creation of bubble universes because of time travel. What better way to have unusual things happen than to use the fictional Red Matter to collapse a massive super nova into a super massive black hole and use it as a plot device never before seen in Trek?

What else could "sweet" mean other than, well, sweet?

I thought you were being sarcastic.

And I've read your arguments on the topic. But other Sci-Fi shows have used the idea that traveling trew a black hole might lead to a alternate universe.

Althou thats obviously not the case here.

And its also not the first time that a singularity [artificial or otherwise] has lead to a time traveling event or a universe crossing event.

See the outtakes.

The simple miner Nero knew how to calculate time traveling/dimension hopping destinations from random wormholes that is opened up.

Basically...... because JJ said so.

Well, drilling into a planet doesn't sound like something someone would just hire someone off the street to do.

Not off the street but off mining college.
And im pretty sure that temporal mechanics isnt taught there.

And how are you sure?

College i went to taught Law, Geology and physical sciences. Go figure.
