i don't understand why kurtzman and orci got to write star trek's prequel instead using david loughery's script: the academy years..

i read some of excerpts from the script; some parts did adhere to star trek canon compared to what kurtzman and orci wrote.....

here is the website:Merrick explores STAR TREK: THE ACADEMY YEARS

Why would he have? O&K are his go to guys it seems on other projects and trusts them. Plus he may not have even been aware of this script (and still no reason to use it, doesn't really seem all that exciting to be honest.)

Though I read a rather hilarious comment in the talk back section.  People really have some very imaginary views of Gene Goddenberry.

"Star Trek should look to the future. Instead of going back to the Academy Years (which is a good idea for a tv series) it should go forward, wheather its in the 24th century or the 27th, and the federation should be at war. Create a new species, or something, but it would have to be something that would go against EVERYTHING that Gene Roddenbery stood for."

Gene had a prequel envisioned during the TOS era apparently!  Besides, what Gene Almighty stood for wasn't necessarily a good thing.

I'd have to say there's a very simple and basic answer to this:

Look at David Loughery's script for Star Trek V.

The End.
