Freelancer of various artistic things such as illustration and design. I would do some stuff for animation too if I had the right equipment. I previously worked in-house for a inflatables and display company designing and occasionally painting large parade grade helium balloons , cold air display balloons, interactives and costumes. Over all it was a cool job except for the pay and the working conditions. Some of the cool projects I had was for the Willy Wonca company, Giant Tiger and the Children's Television work shop corporation. You know the that company that brought you Sesame Street?

I deliver pizza now. I've worked mostly in restaurants, sometimes in management positions, and I was also in the Army for six months  before I was medically discharged.

So long as they understand that pounding away on the table doesn't always get one's point across effectively.

Sorry to see so many of us have been retrenched / downsized / layed off and are doing it tough.

Been there and done that, not much fun job hunting, making do on a very restricted dole payment expecially when you have kids and mortgage and loan repayments to support, and not everyone who gets retrenched/layed off / downsized gets a nice big severance payment / golden parachute or steps straight into a new job.

I'm an Administrative Assistant for a local grade-level after school chess program. I took over from my brother, who went to work security at a car factory that's closing down.

My job isn't bad. I just started last August, making $9/hr. I normally only work 8 hours a week, spread across 2 days. Though, when there are tournaments, I might work double that.

Unfortunately, my work schedule is dependent on the school schedule. When there's no school, I don't work. Which means I live June through October (when the Program starts up again) on May's paycheck.

I'm also a blooming science fiction author.

Wouldn't bother getting out of bed for $9 per hour.

How do you survive on such a low wage ?

Same as before. IT Manager for the domestic distributor/retailer of TIMEX watches and other brands. By Feb 15, I'd have been here for 12 years.

It's my first job. Before it, I was having a tough enough time looking for work. $9/hr. is certainly better than nothing.

Luckily, I still live with my parents, so I don't have to worry about food, housing, transportation, and other such things.
