Small world! I drove a '97 Taurus for about eight years. It was a great car. In the long run, I was the crappy one, not so much the car. A car will run was long as you're willing to take care of it. I just wasn't doing that as well as I should have. I was good about changing it's oil, but there were a lot of other preventive maintenance items that I really didn't bother with. Then I started putting all of these extra miles on it. Back and forth to work (a 50-mile commute for me) and dating a girl in Sacramento (an eight-hour drive from L.A. about every other weekend) took it's toll on my poor ride. Finally, on that one fateful night while driving to work last year, she had had enough. Engine lost compression on me for God knows whatever reason (idiots at Pep Boys were too busy trying to convince me to just drop a new engine in her for $3000; hell, I'd just paid $1500 on a rebuilt transmission about two months before this). Then that was it. I had her towed away for good. Now, every time I see another maroon colored Taurus on the I-10, I can't help but to think of all the fun times I had in that car, about my two babies that it helped me bring home and how it allowed me and my family explore Los Angeles. Now I'm not really one to grow an emotional attachment to a machine, but that car was almost like a member of the family. I miss it.
