Ok im not a fan of the new star trek. and i think it was down right insulting and ballsy for what the writers of the new movie did by changing the time line. why ballsy? because essentially when they did that they the took control of the origin and future of star trek story lines. gone is the vision of roddenberry through berman. now its the Orci - kurtzman future you will see. basically  they are saying " ehhh we like star trek. just not how roddenberry envisioned it. we think our version of star trek is much better." i just think that way too many fans of star trek accepted this just because they wanted to see a star trek movie. its sad and i have no interest in this new vision. so that being said so long star trek. it was cool while it lasted.   P.S. the uhura trying to make out with spock right after spocks mom and world died was a bit too much.

But how boring would it have been if they'd simply done a straight copy of TOS. And what a pointless exercise anyway.

I might not have liked everything about the new film, but I applaud them for at least trying to do something new with it.

Of course eventually Star Trek was going to move on to other writers/producers if it is to survive. Those other era's you mentioned are over so it is time for new people to step in.

I think Roddenberry's vision of a positive future is still very much alive and well in this new production of Star Trek.

Of course fans went to see the movie because it was new Star Trek and I liked it not because it was new Trek I liked it because I liked the story, the characters, the special effects etc. I thought it was a very good movie.

If you view Uhura's desire to comfort Spock after the death of  his mom and the destruction of his planet as really her desire to have a make out session with Spock then you have obviously misunderstood that scene and leaves me wondering how much else of the movie you have misunderstood.

Like every other producer and writer.

starbase63 thats my point. buy starting a whole new time line they are re writing star trek in the ocri-kurtzman vision. not the roddenberry. Know one can
deny that. its just that im not a fan of their star trek. i could have. if they had respect for roddenberry's vision. but they dont. its like liking characters in book but hating the story and re writing the story with the same characters so that it pleases you. now that they have done this star trek now belongs to kurtzman and ocri. all the books, tv shows and movies that came before are irrelevant to the history and future of star trek. Star Trek is now Ocri  - nad kurtzman baby. They conceived it and now own it. thats what my problem is. and i kinda dont get how "fans " of star trek are so accepting of this. maybe someday someone will make their vision of star trek by also altering the timeline to erase both roddenberry and ocri kurtzmans vision.  would that just be delightfull.

The old Star Trek still exists, both in-universe and reality.

So your problem is that Roddenberry no longer runs it.

There's at least a million threads waiting in the wings. Let me start a couple:

Captain Jean-Luc Picard - they'll never be able to replace him, no-one will ever be able to be as good as (Sir) Patrick.
Why did they take the ridges off Worf's head?
The new guy palying Wesley is even more annoying than Will Weaton.
They've changed Deanna's character too much.
Why does Riker have a beard, he didn't grow that until much later.
What about Picard's artificial heart?

etc etc etc

In rebooted TNG, Picard will have hair and be played a French actor with a real French accent, will be drinking Perrier instead of Earl Grey.

Honestly, Patrick Stewart has a much better singing voice than William Shatner. Even the Kirkettes gotta admit that! :logical:
