Given the choice, I'd put my life in the hands of the genetically enhanced one.

Julian Bashir blows Dr. Crusher off the map.

Dr. Crusher is one of the least interesting characters in Trek history. At least Bashir was not a walking cardboard cut-out!

Bashir has incredible depth of character.  I agree with you Vger23...  it's not even close.  Crusher couldn't do anything without Geordi and Data helping her out...  Bashir is a one man wrecking-crew...

Julian Subatoi Bashir could cure a disease with one hand and pummel that redandemptyheaded china doll with the other. The man rooted around inside the BRAIN OF A SECTION 31 OPERATIVE and came out with information that almost directly lead to the end of the Dominion War. He survived almost two months in a Dominion prison camp and befriended General Martok, one of the most Klingon Klingons there ever was. He fought on the front lines in the Dominion War and against Klingons, not to mention staying behind on the station when the Circle took over. He was the only Starfleet medical officer ever shown on screen who didn't hem and haw about the sanctity of life when it came down to life-or-death matters. He was just as willing to pick up a phaser rifle and blast away a few Jem'Hadar as the next person, and he did it well, too.

Where do I Start???

JULIAN All the Way!  He went out of his way more than once to help people in need-including Odo-when he tried to find the cure for The Changeling Morphogenic Virus. He helped the people with the Quickening virus, and helped when that colony was attacked by the Klingons

LOL, this poll on the DS9 forum? Of course we all know the answer.

Still, every other Trek doctor blows Crusher out of the water.

Now, a real choice would be Bashir or The Doctor (Voyager). They were both great characters.

Before Bashir had friendships with Garak and Miles, he kinda sucked.  ;)

Totally agree there.  I think that was one of the more enjoyable parts of Season 1, Garak teasing Bashir with all his espionage talk....

Yeah, but Bashir was designed to be arrogant and irritating at the beginning of the show, to give the character room to grow and mature (mentioned in one of the "extras" on the DVD set. ) Much more interesting than characters who start of perfect and have no "journey" to take.

I think he's a great character.

I don't know if that was the intent from the start, but it certainly worked well that they were able to do that with him.

Include Dr McCoy as well. They could form their own M*A*S*H in space show!

Bashir is out in the frontier, dealing with cutting edge stuff. He's also written lots of articles on complicated diseases and stuff.
