One of the things right now, and it'll kick print in the crotch, is the expanding e-reader/kindle market. ?More publishers are looking at it as a way to cut costs on lesser known/1st time authors. ?And they're growing in popularity with customers for portability and selection. ?Pretty soon brick and mortar stores will be mostly used book stores, IMO.

EReader's and Tablet PC's are the new trend in computing this year. That Apple tablet looks cool. I just hope they don't sell it for $1,000. I wonder how you can type using an on screen keyboard? vs. a regular keyboard? I wonder if their be a day when brick and mortar stores will be gone period and everyone just gets stuff online?

They actually have been a big trend for the last 5 years or so.

Although I seriously doubt every one will give up paper books for an e-reader anytime soon considering the price. Maybe when they are down to 20 or 30 bucks.

I forgot Microsoft introduced the tablet back in 2001 but it is only until now that tablets have more power to make them usefull.

I also wonder when both books and media will be a thing of the past and they will just be downloaded?

it is obvious that Star Trek merchandise like the playmate toys, figures, and the books DO NOT sell as well as other franchises like Star Wars. Just look at the shelf space given to Star Trek books at Barnes And Noble.. look at the shelf space allocated to Star Trek at a Toys R Us.. the success of the new movie, brought a lot of new fans in, but these fans are not the same fans who go out and buy the books or toys.. there are even Star Trek fans who are segmented by series and movies.. George Lucas hit it on the head when he realized that the fan base for his two trillogies, the animated Clone Wars, the toys, the books, can literally be a different fan base  therefore the book market for star trek is small compared with everything else..

It probably won't ever happen simply due the fact people like the feel of an actual book and ¿the turning of a page. Media maybe yet truth be told there are hundreds of millions of people world wild that prefer to shop in a store.

I just remembered the Apple Newton. This is going to evolve into the Apple Tablet. Would typing on a tablet be difficult?

Let's not forget one of the best TREK authors in the business!

Another accolade to bestow upon the great man. Really nice of him to take a few minutes every now and then to post on our humble, broken board.
