Let me rephrase the question

How long will it be until the consoles in XI look dated?

We have touchscreen computers right now. Tablet PC's without keyboards are the new trend in computing this year. Microsoft and HP announced one with Windows 7 due out later this year. Apple is rumored to announce one on January 27th. It said to be like an Ipod Touch with a 10" touchscreen and no physical keyboard.

If you like tech stuff check out this site - www.engadget.com

They are covering the Consumer Electronics Show right now.

The manual "throttle" used to go to warp is obviously some sort of high tech future device as well. :D

In the commentary on the special addition DVD of Wrath of Khan Nicholas Meyer states that every movie ever filmed reflects the time in which is was filmed.

So someday people will look back on Trek XI and will be able to tell that it was filmed near the end of the first decade of the 21st century.

I just finished watching season 1 of TNG and you can tell it is the 1980s just as you can tell the original series was done in the 1960s.

I think both series, and the new movie, have and will age well.

Berman said tech was a tricky thing to do for Enterprise since the laptops we have today are more powerfull than the one Picard had on his desk in TNG.

Some things never change, like the pencil which is essentially the same as it was when it was first invented. The only changes was the technology used to make a pencil which has lead to subtle refinements.

Exactly. Somethings are at their peak evolution when they are created. I mean, what other kind of human controlled throttle would make sense? Touch screen, lol?

It goes with out saying that some graphics will hold up better then others in films and TV.
At best the visuals are mere representations for us the audience to understand.

What we'll have next week in real life is a mystery, let alone in the 24th century.

Nice, wasn't the video simulation of the Genesis experiment the most cutting edge computer work of the time?
